Travel Japan Day 7 Part 2 Inari Street Food

After visiting the red gates and waiting for someone to finish shopping, which seemed like hours, we decided to call it a day.

Walked down where there are a whole heap of people, thinking that is the way back to the train station, only to see a bustling food market. As we got closer, I could hear and smell the grilling of takoyakis, the charcoal grilled quails and sweet aromas of baked cakes and mochis. Is this heaven?

Just look at these, so hunger inducing.

If you go to Inari just to see the shrine, it is an experience in itself. But to be ushered out in a bustling, aromatic food marketplace brings the experience to a whole new level. Even if you just come here for the food, it is totally worth it.

I recommend the mochi because I love eating glutinous rice, filled with sweet red beans. Mmm I can still taste it.

Bye bye food! It's time we exited and head back. The best thing about this place is that it's very close to the train station.

Bye Bye Street Food Hello Dotonbori Food

We got home at 5 PM and rested for a bit. Did a lot of walking yesterday and today. I think my knee is getting old as it started to hurt. I can still walk, but with lingering bits of pain in the back of my knee.

I played a lot of basketball when younger and still practice every now and then, just in case I get called out. From that, I have overused my meniscus which my doctor said it's wearing out. I guess it's catching up with me on this trip.

With a manageable limp, we made our way to Dotonbori to find something to eat from numerous eateries available. Again, there are too many choices to choose from. Didn't want to waste time by being fussy like yesterday only to be disappointed. So we just dropped by at anything good we see.

We picked a sort of sushi/grill bar. They were serving chicken, innards skewers and sushis.

This Sashimi, mmmm, so fresh and a little thick. I could eat this everyday. Japan seem to cut their sashimis a little chunky compared to Sydney. I have had bigger ones though that was so big, I thought I would choke on it. That was in Harajuku, two years ago.

I'm not a big fan of these skewers. They were tough and kind of salty, this would go great with a glass of beer though.

With so many eateries to choose from, we decided to eat a little bit so we can have more room to try the fresh noodle house just next door. After paying for our quick meal we walked.

The noodle master, preparing for the next fresh batch.

This is the final product, the noodle with broth and spring onions. Some deep fried vegetables, taro, prawn and a rice dish, just in case it's not enough.

The noodle was soft and had some bite. It's not gluggy but had a bit of texture. The broth had a hint of miso and maybe some kind of fish sauce, bonito maybe. Paired this with those oily and crunchy deep fried thingies, it was boom pow wow flavorful experience.

That was so satisfying and I can go to bed with a big smile on my face and a big belly.
