Hell ROCKS!steemCreated with Sketch.

I don't mean that like "Satan has a jammin' band" I mean it like "There are amazing rock formations in Hell's Canyon!" And some interesting stories to go with them!

DSCF3427.JPG

Before there were tourists, before the miners, before the trappers, explorers and pioneers, this was the home of the Nimipoo - "the People." White settlers called them "Nez Perce" for no apparent reason as they did not pierce their noses. The Nimipoo have a legend about this area, one this young man tells beautifully with his own illustrations. Do go over to youtube (ick!) and give this a thumbs up for him! (Used under "Fair Use" for educational purposes.)

When the pioneers came to this area, they discovered the pockets of ore those giants splashed all over the canyon and set about digging it up. The area is so remote and so inhospitable that even large lodes of silver, gold and copper could not make mining profitable. This sign disingenuously claims large trucks solved the transport problem. There are no large trucks running ore out of this canyon. There is almost no mining at all going on here, just a few campers panning here and there. Now many of the richest deposits are underwater, flooded by the dams that generate electricity for this part of the country.

Modern scientists have their legends about how this area was formed, too. They claim volcanic activity plus upthrusting shifts of the earth's crust created formations like this:

DSCF3430.JPG

It is columnar basalt, or basalt crystals. They line both sides of these canyon walls. Where dirt has managed to find enough level ground to accumulate you cannot see them, but wherever the rock is exposed you will find these wonderfully geometric formations.

Here is a typical version of the legend modern science tells:
"How was Hells Canyon formed?
Most of the older rocks we see in the canyon came from underwater volcanoes when Hells Canyon's terrain glued themselves to North America about 150 million years ago as a result of tectonic plate movement. Vast areas were later covered with successive lava flows, as recently as 6 million years ago. Uplifting from deep in the earth's core formed the Seven Devils and Eagle Cap Mountains, a process that continues today. The canyon itself is a result of both uplifting and erosion. There have been recent basalt flows and you will also see limestone formed on the ocean floor, ancient lavas, alluvial deposits, and the remains of primitive swamps that grew on the island surfaces.'"

They ask me to believe these crystals formed vertically, then were tossed sideways and jumbled about by upthrusting, without breaking formation? The Nimipoo legend does a better job explaining the physical evidence...

DSCF3449.JPG

Yet we are not forced to choose which legend is true, Nimipoo or Official Science. There is "fringe science" to bridge the gap, that crazy edge of the universe where truth often lurks unnoticed and undisturbed.

Here is a man making "Hell's Canyon" formations in his basement laboratory. He is using high voltage electricity, simulating a plasma event that Electric Universe scientists have theorized was a major factor in forming this planet. Once you see what he can do, you may agree it is the most plausible explanation I have presented today. Turn the volume down and skip through, you can get the idea by watching a few seconds of every 2 or 3 minutes of the video.

To get the explanation of what you just watched and a taste of what Electric Universe scientists discuss, please watch this excellent video featuring the late, awesome Michael Steinbacher:

Do you believe massive flooding or earthquakes BENT these rocks? They are not broken, they BEND.
DSCF3451.JPG

They look like they formed right where they are, the way they are, to me. Not like giants thrashed about and caused this, not like earthquakes and floods ravaged the area and deposited the rocks very neatly along the sides of the canyon.
DSCF3452.JPG

Interestingly enough, if you really delve into the Nimipoo legend, it could be describing a plasma event like the EU scientists have hypothesized...
Seriously, this looks like a finely crafted patio, not chaos left by natural disasters!

Thank you for taking time to visit my blog, your comments and support are much appreciated! I hope you found this entertaining and a little thought provoking, because we have been lied to about many, many things. Denying the impact of electromagnetic forces in the formation of our planet (and universe) is a huge blind spot that "modern science" clings to a bit too desperately.

Find any gemstones?!

Thank you! And no gems this trip, but we are rockhounds, this is "The Gem State" and spring is coming. Or so they tell me...

Oh! Thank you! I did not know you existed, LOVE what I saw at that link! I am in a bit of a rush this mornign, but I will definitely be joining your group!

Satan probably has a fantastic band with musicians who sold their soul to play with him. Just sayin....

Lol! There is an old song about "If there's a rock n roll heaven..." The truth is they have to hire scab musicians from hell?

However these were formed they're amazing. I would get lost in time panning for gold and gazzing all the formations.

The Salmon River Canyon is even more amazing. The formations totally fan out in spots, look like water fountains turned to stone or something. And much better panning there! They flooded all the good stuff on the Snake.

Seriously I was attracted by the title, I wanted to know how hell rocks

Lol! I don't know if I should apologize for the click bait or be glad my click bait worked... Thanks for checking it out either way!

What you have there are columner fractures, or joints... pretty cool and like devils tower in Wy.

Thanks for the cool post. Link to a wiki about this below.

Yeah, I said it was columnar basalt in the post.
Welcome to steemit. You have the right idea in commenting, and good form on making a pertinent comment and not asking for a follow. It is important you read the posts first.
:)

Thanks. You pose many questions in your writing that question the origins of the geology you show in your excellent photos, even though at one point you say it is columnar basalt. This causes the reader to question if you really believe that fractures that formed during cooling was actually the source of what you can currently see today. So I wanted to direct them to a third party (inexact as wiki is) to help demonstrate physically sound, and well accepted cooling origins. Basically to perhaps draw the attention away from a potentially interested person in studying and understanding the topic from thinking that electromag was the main process here.

Futhermore there are many many earthquakes that these rocks experienced post cooling that did form additional fractures, those fractures that cut through and across the columnar joints, and these most certainly formed due to stresses in the system (earthquakes, gravity, tectonics). Sometimes earthquakes, which do occur and sometimes at large magnitudes in ID, are the main cause of uplift in the area. With lots of ideas out there, it is important not to get too distracted and stay as true as possible to the physics.

I see! You were trying to pick a fight! I also included links to the standard explanation. Have a grand adventure here on steemit, I have muted you so this silliness is over now.
