An Australia Tale about the Picnic at Hanging Rock

Hi Steemits, I’m going to show you awesome place in Australia that may not be as well known as Sydney or the Gold Coast but in fact a wonderful place to spend a day out for a picnic or just a forest walk (known as a bush walk in Australia)

Hanging Rock

The first place I want to tell you about is called Hanging Rock, It’s located around 45 minutes drive North of Melbourne in Victoria. It is also the setting of a famous Australian Cult film “Picnic at Hanging Rock” where a girl disappeared on St Valentines Day 1900 (not sure if that is true ).

So many of the rocks looks like a human face which is interesting and at the same time scary! Hanging Rock contains numerous rock formations.

The highest point on Hanging Rock is 718 metres above sea level and 105 metres above the plain below. There are 3 walking tracks, deep cliffs(explorers should be careful when walking around dangerous cliffs). Hanging Rock also feature many stunning rocks, trees, caves, a cafe, play area, dining areas, bbq facilities. There are also many Victorian wineries closely in Heathcote. You will see an abundance of wildlife such as kangaroos, koala’s and the odd echidna.

In the early 1900s, Miranda (Anne Lambert) attends a girls boarding school in Australia. One Valentine's Day, the school's typically strict headmistress (Rachel Roberts) treats the girls to a picnic field trip to an unusual but scenic volcanic formation called Hanging Rock. Despite rules against it, Miranda and several other girls venture off. It's not until the end of the day that the faculty realizes the girls and one of the teachers (Vivean Gray) have disappeared mysteriously.

Anne Louise Lambert, who played Miranda in Picnic at Hanging Rock, discusses the film with Education Manager Cris Kennedy at the National Film and Sound Archive in Canberra in August 2015. In this clip she theorises about what happened to the missing schoolgirls in the film and notes the importance of maintaining the mystery.
