El TeamGordo in Oaxaca. Hierve el Agua and La Pitiona Restaurant. TG #32 (Translation)
Steemians!
Today i’m going to share with you some photos and of course food from a trip we did last year to Oaxaca. We’ll do this post in 2 or 3 parts so it is not so extensive and to be able to detail some of our experiences better.
We will begin with “Hierve el Agua”. This place is a set of petrified waterfalls which have been formed for thousands of years by the action of water, with high calcium content, dripping from the top of the mountain. This movement of water leaves sediments that adhere to the rock and formed this spectacular sights.
The place has a system of artificial swimming pools in which you can dip in if you have the time and the right clothes. Here you have to be careful because the floor is very slippery and the edges of the mountain are not protected.
In the place stands out among so much beauty a tree, that seems to be death, but surely it is one of the most photographed things by tourists.
Hierve el Agua is located about 70 km from the city of Oaxaca. You can arrive on your own or on a tour. If you choose the tour, it’s going to be a quick visit. You’ll only stay at this place for 30 minutes, beacuse the tour includes other places like a mezcal factory or a workshop where you can buy hand woven carpets. If you go on tour own, you have to be prepared for a long drive with bad and confusing roads. But you can stay all day and have a beer up there.
After this long tour we recommend to book a dine at La Pitiona, one of the best restaurants in Oaxaca. And believe me thats a great title, Oaxaca is full of incredible places with superb food. Almost anything you try will taste good.
The food in this place is tradicional but with a twist of molecular cuisine which transforms dinner in a different experience. You can see this in the following dish a “Shrimp Ceviche” it looks great and tastes even better.
The next one is a “Tradicional Fideo Soup”, a common meal at most of the mexican homes, but the twist is in the white bubbles. Those are made of cheese and explode when they touch your tongue.
Fish with Mole Poblano
A “Pork Belly Taco” wich tastes exactly like the tradicional Mexican “Carnitas” (Deep Fried Pork). It was very good but i can’t get out of my head that you can have the same taco, a little bit uglier, for $1 usd at any carnitas stand.
The dessert was a “Buñuelo” with a “Granizado de Café” (Its like an Icee, but coffee flavored). And a Chocolate Brownie.
Hope you like the post. This is a translation from my original post in spanish, you can see it here.
