The Largest Cathedral in France, The Circus of Jules Verne and The Money Bridge on the Road to Normandy
We came to Amiens only because we did not want to spend the night in Belgium on our way to Normandy. This does not mean that I have a bad attitude towards Belgium, does not mean, who stopped in Belgium, if I can come to France soon?
So it looks like the Amiens bedroom: honorable, bourgeois, rich, one floor. The house in the photo is a great example. However, this is not a house, but a four star hotel where we spent the night. There is also something like that.
It is located on a street with a remarkable name.
The lady of the house lives on the first floor, and the whole second floor is given to the guests. How many rooms are there? Six or seven. If it were not for the pile of ads and travel brochures on the table, I would never have guessed at home that it was a hotel.
By the way, approaching Amiens, I think it would be nice if the room had a piano. I'm not playing - my son. That's not the case, but it is! True, not in the rooms, but in the corridors, but this is okay.
As for Amiens itself, it is a city with a population of over 130 thousand, it is the capital of Picardy and is located 120 kilometers north of Paris. Still here lived Jules Verne, all 34 years! In Amiens he wrote the famous "80 Days around the World".
We had breakfast, said goodbye to the hostess of the hotel and went to the center, because if they happen to be somewhere by chance, we should take advantage of this and see.
We passed the circus Jules Verne. Stationary circus is a rather rare sight, because Europe is more common than tents. It is one of seven stone circuses in France, which houses 3,000 people. Representatives in it went from 1889, the opening was attended by Jules Verne himself. What's more ... Federico Fellini uses a circus building in several of his films, and among the famous artists in it comes Ray Charles and Johnny Holliday.
The city in the morning is almost empty, but parking, except for this underground, is hard to find. Somehow, passively, walking along this narrow corridor.
A pretty little town. Despite the fact that he suffered greatly during the Second World War, he was restored and tried to restore medieval expiration.
The cathedral appeared. Because of him, we live in Amiens. Listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, built between 1220 and 1288 and is the largest Gothic cathedral in France! Its area - 7,700 square meters, length - 145, height - 42 meters. This whole football field can be placed!
The doors reminded them in Notre Dame Cathedral, they were adorned with figures from the Old and New Testaments.
Inside the cathedral is very similar to Cologne, and the layout is almost identical.
I do not count beautiful columns, so I know there are 126 of them.
Judging by the fact that the priest was talking to a girl who was not at the booth through the window, it was just a conversation, not a confession.
In general, like other cathedrals, Amiensky is a huge cemetery. Throughout the perimeter of the entire cathedral are various burial places, luxurious and not too much, in the middle of the rest of the temple and trampling dragons several priests feet.
This is one of the earliest graves, Gisant de Gérard de Conchy, was the bishop of Amiens in 1247-1257.
Yes, no one meter is free, there is nothing but dense dust and tombstones!
A very interesting chapel. I immediately did not notice, and then I found a flag on the wall. Among them are the flags of Australia and New Zealand, they have survived here since the First World War.
Everything, the cathedral looks, you can get out into the street.
Wow, people are still few, but the police are already standing. In 2012, in this peaceful city, riots erupted. Their participants, mostly immigrants, burned some administrative and residential buildings, no one considered the car. So the police have not slept since then, and always at the battle post.
Meanwhile, the city slowly awakens, people appear on the streets.
The bearded cleaners cleaned up the cleanliness of the perfect square.
That's the curiosity! We will not buy anything here, but to see how much, and interesting.
Moreover we did not see anything interesting in Amiens, except for this watch. But this is not because there is nothing to see in Amiens, even like that! It's just that we've been pressed for time. The most-attractions Amiens offers house-museum Jules Verne and Picardie Museum, a collection of Fine Arts, which is considered second only to the Louvre collection! Which, incidentally, I doubt, the same thing I read about the Museum of Fine Arts in Lille.
And this we drove to Trouville. Now, we will cross two bridges, pay several times for the road, and all - has arrived. By the way, the second - the last bridge on the Seine in front of the Channel, is depicted on the most non-running European bill of 500 euros.
Building the Pont de Normandie bridge cost 465 million euros, due to the very high budget, its development spanned for 7 years - from 1988 to 1995. At that time it was the largest cable-stayed bridge in the world, but, within four years the record was beaten by Japan , after building the Tatar bridge. The total length of the Normandy bridge is 2143 meters, width - 23.60 and height - 214.77 meters.
The Normandy Bridge - at an additional cost. I can not say for sure, it is worth the trip, because we pay so much for the walks until we reach Normandy! But, like, a penny euro seventy. After this payment, we give 50 cents more is not clear for what, and then admired all meet along the way completely free. For example, these cows.
And Deauville that rains ...
And the Deauville wet beach ...
And the same beach in fine weather ...
An amazing fish market in Trouville and many others.
In Normandy, we were only three days old, but fell in love with him, permanently and permanently.
