There is definitely a truth in that. I feel that traveler is the wanderer who does not judge. A free soul moving in the world like wind does. Appreciative of what he is offered because to begin with he did not start with preconceived notions.
This is where a tourist differs. A tourist is the one doing the guided tour. He already has planned his journey with a preconceived idea of what he would like to see. This essentially restricts his vision to only what he wants to see.
Frankly a tourist follows an itinerary, while a traveler follows his heart and where the journey takes him. There is little to wonder as to why the perspective of the two are different.

Travelling is when you see and experience what most others didn't. Maybe it is a small village you happened to pass through. Maybe you hitchhiked into some car with a guy that tells you the most insane things. Or maybe a local family that invites you to their home and treat like like one of their kind.
I think that's always what I got from cycling, random events happening constantly.
I am pretty sure you and your stories are a great example of who traveler is:)

Very nice article, we like the idea of traveling rather than turism.
Anyway, it is enriching experience for everyone to visit different places and cultures.
