Mermaid Stalactite Ballet - Mexican Cenotes
This summer I spent some time in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico with a group of mermaids. We visited the various Cenotes - Sinkholes in the jungle that the Mayas used for sacrificial purposes.
The photos turned out amazing but it was extremely difficult to achieve them.
We drove around to the various Cenotes trying to get permission to swim in our tails and use photography equipment. Even if we got permission and paid an additional photography fee, sometimes we'd get kicked out mid-shoot by some other official who changed his mind but kept the money. There was a lot of corruption. Then, once arriving at a Cenote we trekked through the jungle with all of our equipment and our mermaid tails (mine weighs 39lbs/18kg) in the stifling heat and humidity.
At first the very cold waters felt nice, but after a few minutes the temperature difference was extreme. This photo doesn't show how cold the water is and one of our mermaids almost got Hypothermia. Nevertheless, the end results are amazing.
This one was taken at Cenote Dos Ojos - the sinkhole of the two eyes. It is a famous cave scuba diving location and the stalactite formations under water are haunting.
The photo was taken by the master of mermaid photography Chris Crumley (https://chriscrumley.com).

That's some serious sacrifice for your art! I can't imagine swimming around with a 40 lb tail on.
Thank you. Did you see the ones with the whale?
I can't seem to find them. Do you have a link?
Yes, it's hard to sift through the resteemed and original items.
Here are the two links.

You have a thing for these once-in-a-lifetime photos, don't you? 🙂
Thank you. Unfortunately nobody sees these posts on here. On Facebook this picture got about 130 likes because it's so unique. I hope I'm allowed to repost my own photos a year from now if I have more friends on here.
Ha! But you've made a whole 32 cents by posting it here! You'll be rich in no time. 🙃
I've seen people reposting, and have considered it myself for posts that I felt offered value, but were more or less unseen.
It's a flaw of Steemit...you kind of have to promote your content. For example, I tweet out my posts to my more than 7,000 followers. If I think it's something that offers value on FB, I will promote it there as well.
Be sure the first tag you use is relevant and trending as it seems to have more weight than the others.
My posts don't get a lot of attention, but I don't really sweat it. Also, this is my second account. My other account has more than 300 followers, but it's different. The content I share there is more business-oriented, tutorials, things like that.
I'm just trying to have some fun and make a few bucks at the same time.
