Roundtrip - Travel Blog Part 2

As I mentioned in a previous posting, I haven’t done any plane travel in a few years. I have now completed my trip and I wanted to let you know some of the things that I learned.
Early online airline check-in is terrific. Since I didn’t need to check a bag, I was able to go straight to the security check line with the boarding pass. Make sure you have your ID and that your shoes are easy to take off and put back on.
Do not buy a plane seat that is the last row. The seats do not recline. It can be uncomfortable and it is right next to the lavatory, so there are people walking by regularly.
Have some wetnaps handy, those serving trays can be really dirty.
When the beverage cart comes by, if you don’t want pretzels ask if there is an alternative. They might have a cookie biscuit.
Be aware, if you want to watch an in-flight movie, depending on your airline, you may need to have the airline’s app loaded on your electronic device. So, if your device’s battery won’t last multiple hours, you may want to forego the movie. No, there is not a handy charging station on the plane.
Make sure your electronic devices are fully charged. It will be a very long flight without access to your reading material.
If you are flying in a smaller plane, that carry-on bag that you so carefully put your medications and breakable stuff may not fit in the overhead storage and so you will be instructed to leave the bag at the entry door to be loaded separately. Oh yeah, you will need to remove your medications and breakables before they stow your bag. Where you are supposed to put these items is the question. I guess packing an extra shopping bag would be beneficial. And considering the landing was more that a little rough, I really question if poorly packed breakables would have made it in the overhead storage.
Seriously consider buying a neck pillow. It will make for a more comfortable flight. The red-eye flight I was on, did not supply blanket or pillow. Long sleeves were adequate but it was chilly in the plane and my neck pillow was very appreciated.
Pack snacks. That layover that was supposed to be an hour can turn into 3 hours very easily.
Keep a good attitude. Getting cranky is not going to do any good. Remember the old saying – You get more with honey than vinegar.
