Having quit his thankless office job, the fidgety man decided to apply as an on-demand driver. He bought a car and started his new venture.

On the way to a fare, he had to make several detours and navigate through zig-zags because the cars decided to park on both sides of a narrow street.

It took some time, but he eventually arrived. His fare was visibly irritate about the delay, to which he was apologetic.

He went back to the only passable route only to discover that a car had just parked parallel to another parked car. Since the driver had just left the car, the fidgety man decided to honk at her, to which he received only a middle finger in response.

With his fare pressed for time, he decided to just plow through the narrow road, hitting all of the sidemirrors of the parked cars.

The driver ran back to her car screaming. The passenger stayed silent, but was visibly worried. The fidgety man smiled in relief.

I linked to the previous koan because it seems that I should've saved that koan for this traffic violation. Just to be clear, the one I'm pertaining to here is double parking. I know it could get confusing, but again, I've already written something similar previously.

I live in a place where the road sometimes feel like only 1.5 cars could fit at the same time. If you look at the definition of 'narrow' you would find the picture of this street. It's as narrow-minded as people who voted for Tru—wait, you know what? I won't be too political in this post. The reason why it's hard to drive here is that while the road is already narrow, tricycles (the most common transportation around these parts) decided to make the sidestreet their personal parking space.

But, you said the road was already narrow. How could there be any sidestreets??

Exactly.

I do have to say that they're not the same level of assholes as their jeepney and baby bus comrades, but some of them really don't know how big of a space cars need. Often times they instruct me to just pass because there's enough space, when really that space is just big enough for vehicles like theirs.

This doesn't just involve tricycles or other PUVs, private vehicles aren't excused as well. As a complement to this, double parking only happens when vehicles are illegally parked. So yeah, I guess this is a result of compounded violations.

Any bad experiences regarding this? Let me know in the comments section and you'll have a chance to win a prize :D

Carmen Miranda's hat would not fit on my head. I already had a banana hat on, and wearing her hat would squish my banana.

I gratefully accepted the fruit seller's offer. He took the hat, diced it up, and gave me a portion to eat. He kept the remaining fruit for himself.

The sidewalk was crowded, and I had to step down into the street to have enough elbow room to eat. I noticed several fellas pushing a car. My hands were full. They pushed the car just a few feet, then went back to a parked car beside where it had been. They got in and drove away.

Trust. Whoever had double parked had also trusted enough that they'd left their doors unlocked, so anyone could get in and push it out of the way.

Sometimes even little irritations offer opportunities to restore your faith in humanity.

We can solve more problems and provide more resources if we trust each other and are trustworthy in return.

That's a nice story. Unfortunately, that would never happen in this part of the world. Well.. I wouldn't say never, but that won't happen in my lifetime, I feel. I'm hopeful it would, but right now what would happen once they see the car was unlocked, they would drive it and never return. Trust.. me that would happen haha!

For me, I feel, discipline still comes first. Trust will follow if everyone is disciplined enough to do what's right. Thanks for stopping by, man!

I was in Valencia, Spain when I witnessed this. I was very surprised, but it was explained to me that this was normal.

That's good for them then. Spain was our first major conquerors, so I wish that attitude was the one that stuck!

Oh yes... the road I live on!! We are one of the first roads out of the city centre that allows free parking, and very few of the residents here have driveways. So every one and his dog parks on the side of the road here.

This means there is only room for one car at a time to go down our road, so it's a bit of a nightmare.

Oh wait, just realised this isn't actually an example of double parking haha!

Hmmm ok double parking... I don't think this happens much here as the roads are already really narrow, and double parking would mean that no one could drive up them!

ENLIGHTENED!!!

Ack!! Do we live on the same street!? Because that sounds awfully lot like mine haha!!

Some are still able to drive even if there's double parking, though the roads are usually wider. For narrow roads, double parking is almost an impossibility. For the roads on both our streets however, if both lanes are parked even if they're not parallel, if the space between the cars doesn't allow for any vehicle to pass in between, I guess that still counts as double parking.

Thanks for sharing your tale, my friend! :D

Waaahaaa!! My street!! The parking is so bad that I christened a part of it death corner and the rest gets the pleasure of beingdeath alley

Aha! I have to say that it's a bit comforting knowing that this happens even on the opposite side of the world, but yeah... The parking situation really needs a solution. Would shrinking the cars help? I mean, adding more parking lots didn't solve it. If anything it only magnified the problem.

Death alley seems like a fine place to live in. I'm sure everyone is just as hospitable as you, dude! Thanks for telling your tale! :D

Hehe, death alley is the only place to live! :0)

Don't forget Torture Row though! I hear it's a fine destination as well!

Might buy my second home there!

Oh that's great! That way we could finally be neighbors and I could make a cameo on your Sabeerdays haha!

Imagine how cool that would be, I would be a happy man

I would be a happy man as well! A drunk happy man!

Double parking? I got it this one this summer and it escalated into full blown power play. The small condominium where my mother lives also has a drive-in and parking lots right next to it, so there are sort of two lanes, just that one is a parking with alloted parking lots. Part of drive-in is under a projected roof (actually apartments in the first floor), and the owners of the apartments had an agreement that they park beneath in case of urgency (storm) or delivery. But since a new owner, who was a professor at university came, everything changed. That person obviously suffers a professional deformation i.e. still wants to tutor and teach a lesson to everyone. The only problem is that there are only tenants and no students. Those owners/tenants chose one of them (not the ex-professor) to settle their matters with the condominiums manager. And when she opposes to some behavior there, and she does it rightfully, they start to oppose the chosen owner. I guess common sense went on holidays. So, this summer just after a heavy storm subsided a bit, the representative of the owners/tenants was called by a friend to come quickly and rescue her because she has locked herself out on the balcony and the temperature dropped 10 degrees. The representative and her husband as a very goodhearted people and went downstairs, uncovered their car and found out that all three opposing neighbors parked on a drive in, so they couldn't possibly leave their parking lot. They went to ring at the neighbor's who had to move a car for them to be able leave. It was about 8 p.m. Those two young people burst out exclaiming, "Now, you go anywhere? So late?" And they didn't come. The chosen representative had to call them by phone again. Then the young woman came down scolding the representative with, "You are truly a disturbed person, you know. Really disturbed."
The representative was hurt and offended. So, I told her later, that if anyone says something like this to her, she should reply with, "If you a not qualified to diagnose than you should not do it."
What those neighbors don't know is that we do have an official paper which clearly states that this is a drive-in, so it is sort of a street and nothing so privately theirs as they claim it to be, because here you can't buy a street just yet, and as we are all equal before the law (so far), all condo owners there own equal part of that drive-in, and any long lasting parking there is considered trespassing. In silence we wait.

Ouch! Those kinds of disputes are a really sticky situation. If they really wanted to park there, then they should have the decency to pay for it or at least move when told, without any complaints. Really though, they deserve to be towed, since they're parking illegally. Maybe you guys could bring it up to the proper authorities so that those neighbors from hell get what's coming to them.

Thanks for sharing your tale. It must've not been easy, so I appreciate it!
