Hi Everyone! Have you ever thought how life is possible? Why we are alive even though we share the same materials of structure with inanimate existences?

Hayat dediğimiz şeyin nasıl mümkün olabiliyor hiç düşündünüz mü? Cansız varlıklar ile aynı yapıtaşlarına sahip olmamıza rağmen neden bizler hayat sahibiyiz?

Vücudumuz  yaklaşık 100 trilyon hücreden oluşur. Hücreler biraraya gelerek dokuları, dokular biraraya gelerek organları oluşturur.  Bütün bu yapılar harikulade bir uyumla çalışır ve metabolizmanın sürekliliğini sağlar. Canlılığın sürdürülmesine “homeostazis” adı verilir. Etimolojik olarak Yunanca  “homoios( aynı)” ve “stasis(istikrar, sabit)” kelimelerinden oluşur. “İstikrarlı, aynı kalma” anlamına gelir. Organizmanın yaşamını sürdürebilmesi için iç dengesinin korunması anlamında kullanılır. 

 Our body consists of about 100 trillion cells. Cells come together to form tissues, tissues come together to form organs. All these structures work in a wonderful harmony and ensure the continuity of metabolism. The maintenance of survival is called "homeostasis". Etymologically, it is composed from words that "homoisos"(same) and "stasis"(steady, constant) in Greek. It means "steady, staying the same". It is used to mean the protection of the internal balance so that the organism can survive.
 

Vücudumuz sürekli  değişen ve hiç durmadan çalışan bir makine gibidir. Hücreler sürekli çoğalarak ölenlerin yerini alır. Ağız içindeki epitel hücrelerinin 5 günde, cildimizin 2 haftada, kırmızı kan hücrelerinin  4 ayda, ve bütün iskeletimiz yaklaşık 10 yılda tamamen yenilendiğini biliyor muydunuz? 

Human body is like a machine that constantly changes and never stops. Cells multiply continuously and take their place of deads. Did you know that red blood cells were completely renewed in 4 months, our skin in 2 weeks, the epithelial cells in the mouth in 5 days and all our skeletal system in about 10 years?

Hücrelerin iç ve dış ortamlarında moleküller hasas bir dengede olmak zorundadır. Hücrenin dışında Sodyum(Na+) hakimiyeti vardır ve sürekli hücre içine girmeye çalışır. Hücre içinde ise Potasyum(K+) hakimiyeti vardır ve sürekli dışarıya kaçmaya çalışır. Hücre zarındaki Na-K pompası ise kaçakları geri çevirerek dengeyi korumaya çalışır. Bu mekanizma hücre için kritik önemdedir.  

The molecules in the inner and outer environment of the cells must be of a precision balance. There is Sodium (Na +) dominance outside the cell and it tries to penetrate into the cell continuously. Potassium (K +) dominates inside the cell and constantly tries to escape. The Na-K pump at the cell membrane tries to maintain the balance by turning the leaks back. This mechanism is critical to the cell.

Kan içerisinde H+(asit) ve bikarbonat(baz) iyonları da bir denge halinde bulunmak zorundadır. Bu denge kanın pH’sı ile belirlenir. Kan pH’sı  7,35-7,45 aralığında tutulması hayati önemdedir.  Bazı metabolik ve solunumsal hastalıklarda kan pH’sı bozulur.

H + (acid) and bicarbonate (base) ions must also be in equilibrium in the blood. This equilibrium is determined by the pH of the blood. The pH of blood is vital to keep in the 7.35-7.45 range. In some metabolic and respiratory diseases the blood pH is disrupted.

Birçok biyokimyasal süreç bir takım enzimlerle kontrol edilir. Kimyasal reaksiyonların hızları, susbstrat ve ürünlerin miktarlarındaki değişiklikler bir denge halinde olmalıdır. Bunu bir teraziye bezetebiliriz. Terazinin sol kefesinde substrat, sağ kefesinde de reaksiyondan çıkan ürün olsun. Substrat miktarının artması reaksiyonu hızlandırır böylece çıkan ürün miktarı artar. Terazinin yeniden dengelenmesi sağlanır. Tam tersi olduğunda ise reaksiyon yavaşlayarak denge yeniden kurulmaya çalışılır. Binlerce farklı kimyasal reaksiyon birbiriyle zincir halinde ve uyumlu bir biçimde sürüp gitmektedir. 

Many biochemical processes are controlled by a set of enzymes. The speed of biochemical reactions, substrate and amounts of products must be in balance. That is like a scales. Imagine that the substrate of reaction on the left side of the scales and the product of reaction on the right side of the scales. Increasing the amount of substrate accelerates the reaction so that the amount of product increases. In the opposite case, the reaction slows down and attempts to restore equilibrium. Thousands of different chemical reactions are chained together and running in harmony.

Vücut ısısı da hipotalamus tarafından düzenlenen önemli bir unsurdur. Isıdaki değişiklikler tüm metabolizmayı etkileyecek sonuçlara neden olabilir. Vücut ısımız düşmesi(hipotermi)  biyokimyasal reaksiyonların yavaşlamasına neden olur.  Hipotermide durumunda kaslarımız titreyerek  vücut ısısını korunmaya çalışılır. 

Body heat is also an important element regulated by the hypothalamus. Changes in temperature can cause results that will affect the entire metabolism. Body warming (hypothermia) causes slowing of biochemical reactions. In case of hypothermia, our muscles tremble and try to protect body heat.

Vücudumuz dışarıdan gelen her türlü etkiye karşı hemostazisi dengede tutan daha birçok mekanizma ile cevap vermektedir. Bunların yeterli olamadığı durumlarda hastalıklar meydana gelir. Hemostazis, eğer geri döndürülemeyecek derecede bozulursa ölüm gerçekleşir. 

İnsan vücudunda henüz anlamaktan çok uzak olduğumuz birçok mekanizma ve fenomen bulunmaktır. Bu mucizevi makine dur durak bilmeden çalışmakta ve hayatı mümkün kılmaktadır. Evrenin makro düzeydeki sürekliliği ve dengesi, insanın mikro düzeydeki yaşam serüveni birbirinden farklı olmadığını düşünüyorum. Evren de vücudumuza benzer şekilde ilke ve prensipler ile işlemektedir. Ancak aynı yapıtaşından meydana gelmiş, aynı fiziksel ve kimyasal yasalara tabi olan insan, maddeyi terbiye edebilme gücü ile diğerlerinden ayrılmaktadır.

Our body responds with many more mechanisms that balance hemostasis against any external influences. When these are not enough, diseases occur. If homeostasis is damaged as irreversibly, death will occur.

There are many mechanisms and phenomena in the human body that we are very far from the point of view. This miraculous machine works without stopping and makes life possible. I think that the continuity and balance of the universe in the macro level and the human life experience in micro level are not different from each other. The universe also works with principles like our bodies. However, the human who came from the same structure and who is subject to the same physical and chemical laws, is separated from others by the power to discipline the material.
