Understanding Your Followers with Spectacles for Steemit - a QReview
Introduction
Recently I discovered a new tool supporting to gain more insight in your followers. The tool "SPECTACLES for Steemit" combines functions that can be found in other tools and is very user friendly to use.
SPECTACLES for Steemit provides you insight in what followers are to your account and posts. How many of your followers are in fact active followers, and how many are dead (users without any activities on Steemit) or ghost (active users but no engagement on your posts) followers. It also gives lists of these followers to allow easy discovery of users you may like to engage with to bring them back to your posts. In addition it provides insight in your Loyal and Top followers, based on interaction frequency and number of upvotes received.
SPECTACLES for Steemit
Spectacles for Steemit has multiple screens and shows the following information for your account:
- Number of Follower accounts
- Number of Ghost Follower accounts (active but without engagement)
- Number of Dead Follower accounts (no recent activities on Steemit)
- Number of Following accounts
- List of Most Loyal Followers (with special mention of Most Loyal Follower)
- List of Most Influential Followers
- List of Ghost Followers
- List of Dead Followers
- List of Top Upvoters (with special mention of highest upvote received)
- List of Upvotes received

Test Results
The tool has a relatively simple but quite effective layout. It has three different tabs (dashboard, followers and upvoters) with relevant information grouped together.
The tables/lists provides the basic information needed to further analyse followers and voters and is sorted on a dedicated column. However, it would be useful when the tables can also be sorted on the other columns.
Steem Power for each follower and voter is included in the tables/lists as well. It would be useful to also include the MVEST for each account.
The definition for Ghost and Dead followers are fixed:
- Ghost follower: Active Steemians who didn't engage with you in the last 100 posts
- Dead follower: Followers who haven't been active in over a month
It would be useful when the definitions of Ghost and Dead followers would be configurable. For instance, it would be useful to define a Ghost follower based on time, eg 2 months without engagement, or a large amount of posts eg last 200 posts. For dead followers it would be useful to include information on timing of last activity.
In general, the tool is easy to us and fairly quick knowing the amount of data it needs to process to give the complete and detailed lists/tables.
Roadmap & Suggestions
It is a new tool and has active development and the creators state this is just a start, many things to be added. The code is also made open source and the project can be found here.

The developers invites to community to give feedback, advise and even an helping hand to bring the tool to the next level.
Some of the roadmap items mentioned by the creators, are:
- Stats about the people you follow
- Stats about people who don't follow you but still interact wit you
- Stats about when people started (or stopped) following you
Additional items that I think can be very useful for the tool, are:
- List/Tables: sort on column values
- Configurable definition of Ghost followers
- Configurable definition of Dead followers
- Direct links to posts Top Voters voted for (launch from eg upvote count)
- Configurable columns: SP or MVEST (or both in table)
- Definition of the rewards used in the various lists/tables eg real payout to author, and how is pending payout calculated?

Some of my ghost followers actually voted for me after I made comments in their posts. That shows the power of engagement.
How cool! Indeed, engagement is the way to go, when interacting with accounts who generally do not discover my posts, some of them give me their votes. I suppose more and more, users are triggered through comments, and check out those users posts/channel.
Since Steemit is basically a social media, engagement is critical. The only thing is that it can be quite time consuming. But it is an investment (which can bring future returns) nevertheless.

Also, like you mentioned yourself, we love suggestions - and also yours we shall take in consideration! We have heard sortable columns and selecting a timeframe easlier, so those will be moved up the list once again.

Ghost Followers are those who didn't "engage", does that cover voting as well or just commenting, I wonder?
Engaging means they are not interacting with you at all. So that includes voting and commenting. :)
A good question, I think it includes voting.
That's great, now I can make a list of people I follow but who can't be arsed to curate my content.
https://steem.makerwannabe.com is another useful tool, but Spectacles gives more detailed information on activities indeed.
Checking this out today
Hope you can make use of it; I was shocked about the number of Ghost followers I have; around 75%. That essentially tells me followers dont mean a lot, at least not the number of followers.
