TODAY IS NATIONAL PAPERCLIP DAY!

Every day provides us with opportunities to celebrate. Today I invite you to celebrate the paperclip. This ordinary item, became extraordinary, thanks to individuals who used it as a symbol.

FROM ORDINARY TO EXTRAORDINARY

The paper clip is often overlooked,
and it’s useful purpose mistook.

During World War II,
it was used by a few,

as a symbol of unity,
in the Norwegian community.

They wore the paperclip,
to oppose Hitler’s dictatorship.

Because the paperclip binds,
it helped identified like minds.

This is how the ordinary,
became extraordinary.

Paperclips keep us organized,
it helped students visualize,

the estimated 6,000,000 lives’ lost,
in the Holocaust.

The Paperclip Project started in 1998,
to teach Whitwell students the Jew’s fate.

Paperclips they did collect,
to learn and reflect.

It took a number of years,
students and others showed they cared.

Paperclips began to appear
to honor someone held dear.

In 2001, they created a Holocaust Memorial,
so, others would remember the historical.

This is how the ordinary,
became extraordinary.
