Please don't abuse tags, and learn what TIL means.

already learnt it, dont abuse your privilege and stop flagging innocent people.
Hi Everyone. Thanks to @logic for creating this channel. The idea for a #til tag on Steemit came from a conversation I had with Smooth. He suggested trying Reddit-style tags. TIL has always been one of my favorite Reddit subs as well as one of the most popular subs (by subscriber and activity level). After I talked to several others on Steemit about this idea, it became clear that we could try a "Steemit-style" version of TIL that combined the links with a bit of original text (a summary, intro, overview, etc.). Everyone seemed to be excited to try a #til tag here. There must have been 30+ people actively working on making these Reddit-style tags successful with posts, comments, and targeting upvotes. Thanks to everyone, we're off to a great start.

@logic has asked me if we should use this channel to do some curation of the #til tag. If this is what the community wants to do, then I think that is great. Here are my other views on the subject.

(1) Reddit subs have a lot of rules. It is difficult to set rules on Steemit. There is no place to “sticky” them. For these tags, I think it’s better to just have some community discussions about what content people want to see, then upvote the good content and ignore anything that does not conform to the community’s preferences. Let the community and the market decide what we want. Can we do this without rules?

(2) If we want to attract people from Reddit and elsewhere on the Internet, then we need to be accommodating. Steemcleaners has an important role to play and has done a great job maintaining a high level of quality on the site. Yet when people come here and submit links in these short-form tags, thinking this is Reddit, I don’t think we should be fascists and immediately kill their reputations.

I would rather that we model and upvote the kind of content we want to see, simply ignoring that which does not “comply”. If the community decides that it wants pure original content and not links, then we also can post comments on non-“compliant” short posts and tell people that we want a little more. If the community decides that it wants to accept and reward pure links (perhaps at a lower level than original content), then I will not stand in the way of this either. Pure links are not my preference, but accepting them would bring us about 10x more traffic and participation than we have now. These decisions should be made by the community. I encourage experimentation and open-mindedness.

(3) I want to see more tags and more short form posts. #til #news and #funny are just the beginning. I hope that community members create more of them. One Steemian asked me recently if he could post a #showerthought (which is based on another Reddit sub) and I strongly encouraged him to do so, making sure he got some whale upvotes.

Start some more tags. Put together a group of people and do what we did: line up some posts, get ready to comment on them, and announce it. Let me know what you are planning and I will work hard to get you some whale voting power for the occasion.

Let’s keep building. And let’s keep having fun!
i dont think you read it youself. you inform people let them learn before you go flagging posts. i admonish you to take your flags back.
