What in the Heck is SeatMyAss?

SeatMyAss (SMA) is a web site being developed by software developer Zojax Group, located in Bellevue, Washington. SMA will be a web site that does true price comparison of tickets for sports and concert events. The goal is to provide ticket buyers with information on where to buy tickets and avoid the exhorbitant prices of scalpers.

Up to this point, no web site offers real price comparisons. Seatgeek.com had this as their original goal but discovered that they make more money selling tickets. They display two or perhaps three sources of prices but nothing like an exhaustive comparison of ticket prices. For instance, Seatgeek does not display ticket prices from primary sellers such as ticketmaster.com or their competitors such as vividseats.com or stubhub.com (a part of Ebay).

SeatMyAss will also include the "hidden" components of ticket prices such as handling fees, commissions, and delivery costs.

SMA expects some resistance to ticket resellers. Price comparisons require ticket sellers to provide an API to their database of ticket prices. So far, Ticketmaster and Stubhub have agreed to provide API access to their databases. In the coming months similar requests will be made to the major ticket resellers: Vividseats, Tickpick, Ticketnetworks, and Seatgeek.

If SMA is sucessful, it will make a significant difference to the purchase of ticket prices in the United States and eventually throughout the world. Providing real-time price comparisons and complete transparency of all elements of a ticket price will give ticket buyers the power to make informed decisions.
