[TIC-80 Games] Bare Bones
TIC-80 Games is a post series where I review TIC-80 games I play. You can read more about the fantasy computer in this post. and see my latest reviews on the tag #tic80games!
Bare Bones is a game created by Trelemar, using RushJet1's music and FredBednarski's art.
You're a failed experiment by Dr. Zilog. Even though the mad scientist destroyed you, you survived by the sheer willpower and you're now in a dungeon of other Dr. Zilog's discarded creations and you've got to fight them, solve puzzles and take revenge on the mad scientist.
In Bare Bones, your body is your health indicator, when you get damaged you lose body parts until you become "bare bones." The lost parts remain in the room and you can restore them, recovering your health in the process. You get a game over and have to start from the beginning if you get damaged while in the bare bones state.
You can fight with fists or by throwing a boomrang. The rooms are like mini puzzles and have to do things like by pressing the switches by putting the wooden boxes over them to advance to other rooms.
The music is really good for a TIC-80 game and it has a vampire vibe to it (works well with the mad scientist plot.) The art isn't bad too, though I feel the main character's art is the weakest. The backgrounds are good and I like the dark knights enemies design. While the game is currently still unfinished and one room is impossible, it's still playable and enjoyable for a while.
Overall, I don't think this game is bad, but I didn't enjoy it as much as Birkanoid or Space Pet Rescue.
What do you think?
