One of my better shots but slightly out of focus! It was raining too hard to go out and my camera is not weather-sealed so I decided to take the first set of photographs from my flat which overlooks Sandown Bay on the Isle of Wight, where I live.

The next photograph is taken from the top car park at Culver Down, overlooking Whitecliff Bay, with city lights from Portsmouth and a lightning strike touching down in the distance.

And the final image... (possibly my best photo of the night) is a four image panorama of lightning over Brading Downs with lights from Yarbridge in the mid-foreground. The storm was fizzling out by now but it still made a pretty dramatic photograph. If you like this image, it is available to print and download in the Inner Vision Photography Gallery. What sort of equipment are you using to take your pictures?
Hi, I have a Nikon DSLR mounted on a tripod. The camera is set to bulb and I expose for the foreground with a long shutter speed and quite a small aperture, somewhere between f5.6 and f11, depending how close the lightning is. This helps not to over-expose the image. I release the shutter using a remote trigger and when lightning happens, I close the shutter almost immediately afterwards. This is also to prevent over-exposure in the event that further lightning strikes happen while the shutter is still open. Thank you for asking. Have you taken lightning photos and were they successful? : )
You can find a tutorial on how to shoot lightning on my blog here.
The photos tell their own story, like you don't even need the words to go with them
Thank you! That is a great compliment :)
Do you just use one camera for all of your different pictures?
Yes same one for this particular shoot.
