The Dissolution

in #thelovebug5 years ago (edited)

You look into the eyes of someone you know and love, but you don't recognize them anymore. Their eyes staring back are not the same as the eyes you remember.

This person inhabits the body of a beloved, but that person no longer speaks to you like the person you always knew. The most horrific revelation sinks into your heart like the anchor of a ship in slow, heavy motion.

You attempt to resurrect the dead, but you know that you have lost that opportunity only you don't know if the shell remaining can resurface and you are bereft.

This is the loneliest you have ever felt. There are no arguments for this battle. It is yours alone to flounder within. How do you remain afloat through the desert of your soul? The person facing you looks on as a stranger, dismissing your shared past as though there is none. You question your words, your reaction and your private grief.

How do you mourn this living death? Mentally, you steel yourself and register nothing outwardly. Your soul constricts to guard your heart while your heart constructs both excuses and solutions.

You move forward, tentatively, changed yet unchanged because you know what is missing and speak quietly or not at all. The death is not acknowledged as death, but the earth has indeed shifted.

Your hope, your prayer coats your life and your feet are shod with the ashes you walk over knowing at times beauty comes of ash.

Hey, @wandrnrose7.

I think this speaks to me in two ways. I'm not sure if either is what you intended. The first has to do with someone who's suffering from Alzheimer's or some mental illness that causes a change. They don't recognize you, or they are more belligerent, or what have you.

I've yet to experience this, but I fear it might start happening with my mother.

The other has to do with someone who has fallen out of love, to the point where they deny it completely. Or maybe a loved one who has been changed by events so much that they are unrecognizable in their thoughts, words and deeds.

Not able to reconcile or reason with them, it certainly would be a silent torture to bare alone.

This is wonderfully written, and deeply impactful. For anyone, but especially for those who are going through what you described. Well done, and very much worthy of the curie upvotes. Congratulations.

Thank you, my friend. I have experienced this more than once in my life. I am sorry to hear about your mom. Thank you for the kind words.

I rarely read freewrites but this was shared on my newsfeed. I'm glad I got to read something beautiful. This is really relatable and it speaks from personal experience. It no longer feels they are there even when you know you are with their company. The silent struggle of accepting what is now and holding on to what was then.

Thank you for taking time read and comment. I hesitated before posting, but felt maybe it might help someone in similar circumstances to realize they aren't completely alone.

Yes reading this I can also relate to similar circumstances. It is always amazing how you find what you need to find or hear. There are no coincidences. Thank you I am glad you went ahead and posted this.

Such an amazing read you got in there, and always free reads tells the exact feeling one has over something and sometimes you wonder why they did certain things and learn from them.
I really enjoyed every second i spent on your blog and i say keep it up

Do not stop writing things like this. Maybe one day they will reach the right eyes and soon you will have your own published book.

Thank you very much @wisejg. It's always a lovely surprise to receive a curie vote. I have not buckled down with purpose to attempt writing a book, but some day I plan on trying. Blessings.
