The Dancing Dreamers - Meet Donna Charlie, India's Rising EDM Star

KAOZdancingdreamersdonnacharliecoverphoto.jpg

With the rise of Electronic Dance Music across the world today, it's only natural that more and more musicians from all over are entering into the world of EDM. We recently met @donnacharlie during her first week on Steemit as she found her way to the @MinnowSupport Project Discord server and began making friends with everyone.

Her personality and her natural disposition was so warm and friendly that she seemed like a natural choice for the launch of our new series of interviews on The Dancing Dreamers. We want to showcase the Electronic Dance Music artists of Steemit and introduce you to who they are and what their experience has been like on the platform so far. It is our hope that this will help their music gain more exposure as well as grow their following and fanbase here on Steemit.

Furthermore, it is our hope that this series of interviews will help other musicians who aren't on Steemit yet, at least look into the platform and consider trying it out. With all that said, let's dive right into it!

TDD. Where are you from? Have you lived there all your life?

I’m from Mumbai, India! I was in Toronto, Canada for 6 years of my childhood, which I refer to as my shaping up years, because it has so much to do with who I am today. Toronto has my heart.

TDD. What’s it like to be an EDM artist in that area? Is your kind of music well-received?

EDM is simply blossoming in the form of purple laser lights that have set the country’s stage on fire! The youth have caught on, and the energy blazes in College Campus Shows and EDM music festivals.

TDD. How long have you been producing music?

I’ve been writing songs for 9 years now. Around that same time, I started performing, too. I started off performing pop music, both covers and original songs. I swiftly moved on to EDM soon after.

TDD. What got you into Electronic Dance Music?

Crowd Reaction. Every time the drop drops (see what I did there? °‿‿° ), people would go out of control! The energy that engulfs the place is transcendental. I wanted to be the creator of it. The ripple maker. The influence.

TDD. What is your creative process like when you’re coming up with a new track?

Shh... that’s a secret. Though I can tell you one thing. It involves Noodles with Fish in Hunan Sauce. Every 3 hours of the process. (ღ˘⌣˘ღ) ♫・:.。. .。.:

TDD. How would you personally describe your sound to people who have never heard your music before?

My music is an energetic experience. Energy ranging from aggression to sultriness, and everything in between. You will want to breathe when I breathe and dance when I dance. Let the music sway you and pulsate within you, like when I dance on stage as though no one’s watching. Some of the songs in my new upcoming EP manage to have the listeners sigh in exhaustion without even moving a limb. They call it magic. I call it orgasmic. Here’s another secret - ‘build up’ and ‘release hold’ transcending into a bigger ‘climax’ is the key to trapping and captivating my listeners.

TDD. Who would you say are your musical inspirations?

I get inspired by very specific and iconic characteristics of several different Artists. Deadmau5 - Build up (Pre-chorus Melodic Construction), Alan Walker - Release hold (Drop 1), Beyoncé - Energy (Performance, Voice), Adele - The Big Chorus Effect (Songwriting), Weeknd (Songwriting), Ed Sheeran (Honest Lyrics), Justin Bieber (Business Model), Taylor Swift (Grooming, Marketing), and Bruno Mars (Style), to begin with. There are still lots more just like them.

TDD. How long did it take for you to get signed and start doing more official performances?

I didn’t have to try much, honestly, because it came to me like a choice. You just need to know what suits you best and how far you want to take it. I didn’t know if I wanted to get signed until I saw the contract. They got to know me through personal connections, heard some of my music, and BAM! I was on board. It’s still feels unreal when I take a moment to step back and take in the situation. All the time spent on grooming my self, polishing my skills, and making music keeps me excited and energetic 24/7. I feel nothing but gratitude towards the Universe for always making things happen for me, and in the way that I want it.

TDD. Can you tell us about your first big show? What was your first “big break?”

I just got signed 2 months back, and my first performance ever on a big stage was at a music festival in India, through the record label. My music never took much time, it was the dance rehearsals and shopping that made me sweat. But it was worth it in the end. I couldn’t stop smiling for a week. It was exactly how I wanted it.

TDD. Where do you see yourself in five years?

5 years? Let’s make it 3. I’m taking the industry down. In the league of Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, you name it. It’s not overconfidence, don’t get me wrong. I’m only practicing the power of belief. I believe I am meant for it, and just by that, I will attract my ambition to me and make it work exactly the way I plan to live it. It’s called the power of the subconscious mind. It’s the biggest secret to success, and it's lying in plain sight. People are not crazy when they say believe in your dream. That shit’s real.

TDD. What would be your dream festival to headline at?

"Dream festival?" I’m gonna have my own concert. I’m telling you. Believing is the power to infinite possibilities.

TDD. How did you find out about Steemit? How long have you been on the platform?

I found out about it from my musician buddy @Hardikv, who is also signed to the record label that I’m signed to. Do check out his music on his Steemit blog. That band is making it big in the country! I've been here for just seven days so far.

TDD. What has your Steemit experience been like so far?

I unexpectedly blew up. I received an immense amount of love on my first few posts. I am nothing without people genuinely investing their interest in me. I owe it to them with gratitude and love.

TDD. What are your thoughts on the future of Steemit?

Steemit is going to take over every other social media network out there. It’s like they say, it’s social media done right.

TDD. Is there anything else you’d like your potential followers to know?

Believe in yourself, your dreams, and your ambition. DO NOT doubt it. You may sound like a wreck and a wacko to those who surround you, but you are the one who’s going to attract your dreams into reality and make them come true. Also, keep your good friends close, and your family closer. An ambitious individual like myself tends to forget to go back to my roots with all this distraction. They are your temple of sanity in all the bantering and madness. Lastly, stay true to who you are. Accept the upgrades.

She has also provided us with a video of her snapchat stories from the recent Totempole Festival that she performed at, to give us a better idea of her life as a performer and what she really does.
