'House Rules'

As a family, living together in the same community, we are all subject to the same rules. This used to be a set of loose guidelines, but things have been taken advantage of and we continue to grow, so, we want to make sure people are aware of a few things. One, that you actually want to be here within #thealliance stronghold. Two, you understand what we're about and exactly what it is that we do. There will be a mirror of this post on the @syndicates profile as to reach maximum exposure.

RULE #1 - Your Egg

1) If you haven't retrieved an egg from a brood mother Chericleps on planet Zyngroptha yet, you should probably do so. You cannot seriously be considered for membership until you realize - this isn't really rule #1.

RULE #2 - Quality

Quality of your posts will be checked upon your APPLICATION submission. Yes. It doesn't matter if you're reputation is 75 and you have a million Steem Power, we are all on a level playing field here. I imagine your posts would be quite good though, if you are that high up on the food chain. If your application and posts are deemed well and good, you will be notified of our decision. Please be patient as we all have an agenda and cannot immediately reply with an answer. We want to continue to keep Steemit a place of creative birth and enjoyment. We do NOT care for copied and pasted, a 5-year-old-kid-could-have-done-it material. People caught plagiarizing WILL be reprimanded.

RULE #3 - Engagement

We are a TEAM of quality content creators and curators - allies. We strive to do several things for each other. First and foremost, bolster each others positive growth with our 'votes of approval' and occasionally resteeming a much enjoyed post. We will comment on the ones that tickle our minds. Commenting without leaving a vote really is a slap in the face, so please don't do that, unless you really thought the post was awful. Then, well, not sure why you would comment anyway LOL! This way though, we all know you were there and what you thought. We know you can't upvote everyone's posts effectively, but knowing you are there from time to time and showing your support is vital. It's just like saying, "hey fam, we got your back." Real simple.

RULE #4 - Feeding The Whales

Anyone that eats fish or does a lot fishing should stay away from @killerwhale, he might mistake you for food and eat you like, NOM NOM NOM NOM NOMNOMMITY NOM.

Rule #5 - Consistency

Not only is quality highly prized, but consistency as well. I'm not saying post a dozen times a day, do what you're comfortable with, and then make it a habit to STAY comfortable. Maybe you post once a week, or every couple days? Just, once you start swimming, remember to KEEP ON SWIMMING or you're likely to drown out there in this vast Steemit ocean. We've had some pretty good quality creators fall off the grid and lose their memberships due to lack of Steemit engagement and/or getting greedy and posting crap. You want to take a crap, go find a bathroom, or an outhouse, or maybe even that quiet patch of trees. But, honestly, nobody really wants to see it ;)

RULE #6 - Family Expansion

Since we are expanding, it is expected that core members also do their best to support the syndicate cousins and syndicate cousins (Alpha, Beta & Gamma), in turn, support the core. Family is family. Families grow. This all started as a tiny seed in the pea-sized numb-skull brain of @enginewitty and now it's turning into a forest. Everyone can spare a vote or two a day, I vote on all of you and then some EVERY day, comment when I can and I see no reason anyone else shouldn't be able to do the same. Manual curation, automatic, it doesn't matter. Family comes first, be there for each other. ENGAGE.

*****Special Notice*****

Just because someone is accepted as a member or is a member now, does not necessarily mean they will forever remain a member. That is solely the choice of the ally to maintain the required participation level within the family. Members' content and engagement are checked periodically by the Quality Control & Syndicate Officers. The Juyo will also check to see the amount of support given to your family. If it is believed to be too low and an individual is lacking the desired family unity, then it is grounds for removal and MOST will be asked about your intentions. Notification will depend on the level of commitment you had shown PRIOR to getting put on the chopping block. Some may start strong and trickle off, some may not even graft themselves to the family tree at all. If you are or have been removed, feel free to re-apply at any time. All new and re-applying members are subject to the same application process, regardless of your STEEM Power or Reputation, and will be reviewed by the Syndicates' leaders.

Thank you for posting @thealliance.

Rules of Engagement......as anyone who has been here a while will tell you....it is not considered the Steemit way to comment and not upvote....whilst some may not agree it does not change the way things are.

Here's a recent post by a popular and longtime Steemian that addresses the issue of not voting in the post.

Perhaps this will assist in coming to terms with the unwritten rules of engagement in the Steemit community.

Wishing you all the best.

Cheers.

Thank you for chiming in Bleu :)

Thank you @thealliance for your reply.

The Alliance is such a good idea and I wish @thealliance every success.

Cheers.

Hold on there! Commenting without upvoting is NOT meant to be an insult around here! We run our vote power down and still find good stuff, so we try to at least leave a good comment... I HATE to think anyone would take that any other way!

The general consensus would beg to differ. It's like walking by the Santa ringing his bell for the orphanage outside of Walmart at Christmas and you stop to say, "Oh I just love what you guys are about and all the work you do!" And then walking by him twice - once on the way in, and on the way out, and not dropping a single penny in his bucket to back up your words. It is understandable VP runs down and not everyone has their slider yet to manipulate their voting power. Such things are taken into consideration. Under no circumstance are you required to upvote every single post every member makes. No one would have any VP left if we all did that. But do show your appreciation of the ones you like.

Wow, I would love to see a survey done, honestly. I have never felt insulted by a comment, unless the comment was insulting.
I know the other 2 steemians in the house feel the same way I do. Small sampling, but my survey is 100% in favor of talking to people when you have something you want to say. Where and how did the notion get started that talking to people is insulting? Even Santa bell ringers? I, like MANY people, often go shopping with no cash and find myself with nothing to put in their pot at times. I still smile and say "Merry Christmas" to them. You honestly think walking by like I don't see them is LESS rude?

Nor have I felt insulted by a worthy comment. Comments are great, don't take this out of context. A person's motivation may increase slightly, but upon seeing that you took the time to write it, and didn't leave a small vote, may in fact, hinder the inspiration you just tried to give. No vote = no growth for them on the platform outside of "yay, she liked it, but I guess not enough." That's what we are going for is growth.

Hope I am not pestering... I thought the comments DID help the posts author, even without an upvote? I thought the "engagement" was factored in somehow... I admit there is a LOT of this platform I still don't quite get tho. And as long as we are hashing this out... I HAVE occasionally done a 1% upvote because my VP was so low, but then I quit that thinking THAT seemed insulting. Perhaps a "code of voting ethics" for the alliance could be put together, discussed, and distributed? Seriously, I hate to think anyone is getting insulted about misunderstandings... this is sort of a tough place to "break into" already! Don't need extra butt-hurts lol!

Also have to take the whole thing into consideration. Lot of people come in here knowing i have autvoters set up and there are other various support accounts. I believe in the do unto others kind of thing, but only to an extent. Some have exploited that generosity and never "graft themselves to the family tree". And a 1% is still better than nothing. Do as you please and what works for you. Be YOU. In all reality we can't force anyone to do anything. For a long time, the top earner on Steemit did it solely by commenting and then upvoting people's replies. Took people a while to understand what he was doing lol! Just spread the love when and where you can is the major point.

Thank you! Seriously though, I would make use of an "alliance voting etiquette" guide, and I think a lot of newbies would!

I'm going to pipe up here and say that I commented on TONS of posts as a newbie without voting, before I was generously delegated enough for a slider. Yes, VP goes down, and I think anyone who sees a heartfelt comment is going to take it as a compliment that someone took the time to read their post and leave a thoughtful response. So, yeah, from a newbie perspective (or someone with less SP), I disagree with the idea that you have to vote. That said, now that I do have a slider, I spread my vote around as much as I can. :)

I always do vote on posts I comment on its like a auto thing in my head.
I guess we all are different but for me personally the engagement is my favorite part and support people and I get lots of support so others deserve the same.
And if I read a good post and comment I do vote as well. How can I not? But that's just me 😜
This is a big ocean and easy to get lost in the crowd.... That's why I'm thankful for my family #thealliance

Dang, I need to start that mission to find me an egg. Any hints on where to start? Go Alliance! :)

Commenting without leaving a vote really is a slap in the face, so please don't do that, unless you really thought the post was awful.

Anyone that gets upset because I leave a comment, but don't upvote their posts will never get another upvote from me and probably muted. That self entitled victim mentality bull shit has no place here on this platform.

No one is owed an upvote from me. I don't expect an upvote from anyone else. I comment on stuff all the time on social media sites and never upvote/like. I actually upvote people that provide a thoughtful comment on my post regardless if they upvoted me or not. Why? Because I enjoy sharing my thoughts with people and hearing their thoughts about what I wrote without any strings.

Would I be here if I didn't get any upvotes or make money of course not, but I work harder to provide better content every day. Not cry because people are commenting, but not upvoting.

With this kind of mentality, we're going to start seeing whales only vote for whales and dolphins for dolphins because it's not fair to vote for minnows when they can only give me a $0.01 upvote back.

Well said I do agree I think the same way as you

Tip!

Hi @gniksivart! You have received 0.1 SBD tip from @tattoodjay!

@tattoodjay wrote lately about: Percy'S Tavern. Feel free to follow @tattoodjay if you like it :)

Tipuvote! - upvote any post with with 2.5 x profit :)

I to do not agree with the commenting and upvote being a slap in the face
I certainly do not take it that way if it is a real comment

If my vote power is down I will leave comments without upvoting and if people take offense at that then I am sorry to say that is there problem and not mine

Well, I agree with the fact that since the family expanding there should be some help from members. Now, having said that, I fully disagree with just a comment being a slap in the face. The only time I would agree with this statement is if someone came to my blog and said they upvoted when they didn't cause that is a lie.

However, and I do tell this to my newbies that I train in Alpha, and even just members that join the syndicate, that comments are important, if not one of the most important things you can do and need to do well. I let them know, and I have said this to a few that they need to engage and that is through comments. They worry they can't upvote as they are without a slider (I remember that time myself) and they are maxed out at 10 full votes a day, so they worry they can't upvote. Yet, I tell them comment. Engage. If you can upvote upvote, if you can't then it's not a big deal people want engagement. I was not aware the "majority" of the alliance thought that as I have never heard that, and if that is the case they I have been instructing people incorrectly as I do not personally believe that myself.

If I am low on voting power, or anything of that sort and people don't appreciate me visiting and giving a nice comment and instead only want my upvote, then honestly I don't need to be associating with those people.

Sounds fair to me. We all do our bit and as a group of individuals we come together to make steemit more enjoyable for both seasoned pros and new members

Very good post
