This is something most people don't even know they need. It serves two purposes, faster charging of mobile devices and increased security.

Increased Security?

Before I can explain why it is more secure, let me explain what it does first. The purpose of this device is to make a usb port use maximum possible charge current to charge a mobile device (or anything that charges a battery over USB). The problem is computers have a data line as well as charge line, if it detects a data line it will charged at a reduced rate. That's why it takes forever to charge an iPad on a computer.

Modern motherboards will usually include "Super Charging" software that will do the same thing as this device, which is to disable data transfer. This is where increased security comes from, it is a side effect of the main purpose of this device. By disabling the data line you device can charge at the full speed of the computer charging it. Even without a modern motherboard and Super Charging software.

The device gives you more security when you are using random USB ports you do not trust, like at the airport and other people's laptops. It isn't impossible for a hacker to compromise a usb jack or charging device to steal or compromise data on your mobile device. Although in theory this should be extremely rare, it is a nice side effect of this type of device.

The main purpose of the device is to disable the data line so it can maximum the charging speed of the device connected. It is a usb jack with a male and female end to act as an adapter. I use it when charging on computers that do not support fast charging devices or I don't trust a connection.

Most of the time I don't need this device, but it is good to have in a travel bag for when you are at an airport or hotel, a prime target for hackers obtaining data and control of mobile devices.
