My new year gift with reason, and why we give 'red packet' during chinese lunar new year?

Guess what, it's the last week to our most anticipated chinese lunar new year 2018.
And this year is the year of the 'dog'

According to tradition new belonging in new year bring new hope,fortune and lucks.
And yes i bought a new belt and wallet for my new year hopefully it will bring me more money and the belt will 'hold' on to my money.
This year the biggest challenge of my life and new member and i need to gain more milk powder income for the princess.

And most important during chinese new year married couple will have to provide red packet to children, parents, relatives, friend who is still single.....another big expenses. Can i have a big red packet with loads from my boss this year. Hmmm....!!!

Talk about red packet who and why do we have this tradition?
It can be say as red envelope or 'hong bao' in chinese. Why is the red packet is in red.
Red is consider as good luck, fortune and happiness. Older days red is consider as preventing bad spirit too. This bring us the story i wrote before.

Is there a minimum requirement for giving ang pao? How much are we suppose to prepare the amount money inside it. The amount is not important but the meaning, that is spread the joy and new year spirit.
There are some of my friends who always having headache during this time. I always told them new year celebration is and always supposed to be happy and reunion. If people is looking towards 'ang pao' sizes than they would be better hope that all of the families, relatives and friends are very wealthy.

There is another tradition that parents will put 'ya shui qian' or a red packet with money inside under their childrens pillow. According to my parents it was a means of hoping their childs healthy in the coming year and prevent bad 'nian' going near their children.
