Steemit Bootcamp @ Sunway Nexis - Recap

in #teammalaysia6 years ago (edited)

After half a day was spent at the Women in Business: Making an Impact event, off we went straight to our next venue after lunch - The Steemit Bootcamp

Honestly from the first day I have joined Steemit I never attended a bootcamp as such like this before; but during the time when I started being active there weren't any such facilitated tools on a local scale was available. You pretty much have to swim your way to get around and experiment yourself. So it was a blessed experience for me first hand.

And as steemians as usual, especially for #teammalaysia , a we-fie is a must on any meet ups.

And to be able to witness our great @maverickfoo 's first hand sharing and how he gets the attention of eager learners was a great privilege. Totally hats off to him and @bitrocker2020 for preparing the slides so well including some really exciting news shared for our upcoming huge event that is currently in process of planning for the second half of the year.

Aha! I am not going to tell you if you ask me what it is. Only those who were there would get their first hand juicy news of the latest development. I'll give chances for those who took part in blogging to have a chance to write about it, if so they choose to do so.

Despite I was just there to support the #catalyst initiative by @coachmelleow , and was actually hoping under my breath that I was spared , my wish did not come true...

I was "put on the spot" totally unprepared, and as I was told, that's Mav's signature move - getting real life examples as fresh from the oven as possible (as I casually joked with him thinking how to structure what I want to say) is a great way to show newbies that there are people who has gone through it before.

In many ways this is good because sometimes, you got to be pushed out of your comfort zone to be able to overcome your current complacent mindset to the next level.

And to test how much you know about Steemit, this is how I suppose... to show when the rubber meets the road.

Yes, seniors. Always be ready if you are in any boot camp, because when you are least expected, you could be next.

(and yes, @zord189 was not spared as well... I do not know whether the rest were spared in the morning session though... only @aaronleang and @joannewong can testify)

After that as usual, every event will wrap up with another round of #meetup, be it over dinner or drinks; because there's never enough time to catch up with everyone.

And some of our steemians can go for round 3, 4 and 5... !

That's all for today! All events covered and it's time for me to rest my head and head off to dreamland!

Until then

nice to meet you yesterday! :)

Great to see you taking that extra step of initiave to push forward in Steemit too @williamsyee !

Go Team Malaysia :) I hope one day when I'm in the city I can make one of the events <3

Oh wow I hope so too! Stay tuned for September though! There's something really exciting coming soon @heart-to-heart!

A notable difference between team malaysia and the sub-community of mine is that most people around you are at least in their 30s (Im almost 40) but most around me in the sub-community are mostly in their early 20s.

Most people here in Hong Kong over 30 years olds are reluctant to new technologies and many of them, narrow-minded, think steemit is a scam.

Actually, we have @digitalmind who is way beyond the 40s and is in the bootcamp room.

I think it has nothing to do with age, it has everything to do with complacency.

And also with China not favouring crypto currency it has instilled limitations to your country perhaps?

Nevertheless I think besides the technologies, it is more of the spirit wanting to build a better community together is vital. Because when the heart is right, the sky is the limit.

Thank you so much for stopping by and giving your valuable feedback @prch !

Oh yeah, you nailed it. Decentralised blockchains and cryptocurrenices can be politically incorrect in the largest Asian country, you know what I'm saying. But Hong Kong, to date, has no internet censorship, unlike her Mainland Chinese cousins (I'm not sure when freedom'd vanish into thin air in Hong Kong).

And the thirst and hunger for learning new things and doing things at the next level is what keeps people, no matter their ages, exploring and learning. I have respect for you people at team malaysia, particularly those over 30s who may have been already successful in real life but still don't mind accepting steemit that is extremely new (compared with facebook and free forums) and dedicating time to it.

Isn't there a Chinese saying,

活到老,学到老

(Learn while you grow - older)

This was the teaching that my teacher always reminds us during the childhood days, and it is important for those especially seniors to keep learning so that their brain have less potential to fall prey to illness like dementia.

Taking side with you.

Hahaha..there is no chance for you to do a disappearing act as you are the one who is controlling the mothership on Discord. The moment you start showing the whip, ALL is good 😄

oh man... what have I got myself into?

Thank you for such humbling comment. I actually really wanted to stay behind the scenes, @bitrocker2020 would have known that when he first met me.

(hiding in the system, making sure all is running smoothly. So even @superoo7 cannot make disappearing act dy)
