Sydney, the rest of the country are laughing at us!
So lets do something about it
Inspired by the wonderful work of @mattclarke with his Adelaide organisation, and the multiple members that have run Melbourne meetups, not to mention having been prodding @ryivhnn about doing something in Perth and @bmj's post to get themselves organised, I'm finally standing up to do something about the seeming lack of Sydney organisation for actually getting together and meeting others in our community.
Why Me?
I've been kind of asking this for a while as the thought of organising this was formenting and waiting for a bigger steemian to step up and start the ball rolling. Seems that's not happening, so why not me? I mean, if anyone else wants to step up and help out, I'm not going to say no or stand in the way of other meetups, but I do want to at least get things started. I'm not always in town either, so it would be great to have some others that help out and run things when I'm not about and when I'm not available.
I've also got (some) time free to do some kind of organising, at least while things start small.
What am I currently thinking?
Panic. Panic is definitely high on my thoughts, but hey, I can organise events. I've done it before. Especially easy if the 'organise events' is as simple as my initial thought of something like Matt's monthly thing, where he's just going to be at a bar at a specific time and people rock up. But I do want to run things past a few people to find out what time/day is likely to be the best time for things.
What can you do?
My fellow Sydneysiders, what I want from you is signs of interest in coming to a meetup. Thoughts on where would be a good place to do it (I don't get out to the bars much, food places are more my thing) and what day or time would likely be the best to get a turnout.

C'mon Sydney peeps! Maybe I should go for a drive and hang out with you for a beer so we can at least say that Steemit users met in Sydney (even if I am a Melbourne person). :P
That'd be awesome for sure. I'm also doing a bit of a tour in the coming future (next month), with at least attendance at the March Monthly in Adelaide being part of my plans. If Melbs is having a meetup/random drinks on either my heading over or back stops, I'll certainly be trying to attend that too.
For sure, we seem to be meeting up at least once every 2 - 3 weeks at the moment. I try to get to as many as I can. There's some great ideas coming out of the group.
There's another TA guy in Canada, maybe I should do a meet up with him, although that would mean only two of us there 😂😂😂😂 he even lives like 6 H away from me 😅
I am loving all these meet ups blogs tho, love checking out the pics, so Sydney, don't be lazy 😂
That would really suck if the Canada branch of #teamaustralia got together for a meetup before Sydney manages to!

Check out the more recent posts where we actually had an event and there were 4 of us attending. There will be more, but I'll not be arranging one until I'm back from SA early April.

Needs firm, consistent direction though; find the most suitable place you know and choose the most suitable time/date you can, and just tell everyone.

Thanks for the advice mate. I'm hopeful of doing something this month, but also looking at the idea of it being actually for my Shave too, which I've got to organise still...
I'm a few hours down the coast but I'd trek up, @forexbrokr and I had a 2 man meetup at Cronulla R'y a couple months back.
I didn't even hear about that. I'd have come down for that if I knew (and was in town!) Cronulla isn't that far a hike for me from here. R'y? is that like local for the RSL or something else? I was thinking an RSL might be a decent location, given they generally have cheapish meals, decent range of brews, and a bit of space
Yeah just the RSL, that's what I've always called them, never had to put it in text though lol
We were mates before Steem so it was more just a catch up, but all we did was talk about Steem for hours hahaha
I'm in Sydney and would be keen for a meetup, but like you I don't go out much and wouldn't know the first place to go to
Where about in Sydney are you? it's a pretty big place. At the moment I'm looking at somewhere central, but if everyone is more south, I'm happy to go south. Could do north too, but I'm already a bit south at Rockdale

Side note.. YO! I have been trying to figure out if anyone is interested in ages. Where abouts are you? I reckon we need to figure out how many wanna come out, and where everyone is so we can figure out a location for the meet.
I'm in Rockdale, but I was thinking heading into the city to somewhere works for either pub for drinks or somewhere for food, but there's plenty of other areas we could hit up if things are easier that way, or cheaper...

make a steem meetup at the least visited lookouts.. or the main 3 sisters lookout where heaps of tourists and locals are running around.
I wish Foo, just can't think of a place cool enough for our meet. Echoes and Lilianfels are amazing but pricey. There's The Carrington but I haven't set foot in that hole in a long time and one of the rooms looked like someone died in there.

Yes it is. I've got a bunch of details together and if nothing else it'll be hanging out and meeting people at the bar. I'm hoping that I can get my World's Greatest Shave done at the same time, but have to actually go in and talk to management about that first, rather than just showing up with a set of clippers :)
Oh, and I already had you on my list to notify when I put out the actual advertising for the event. I intend on talking to management on Thursday, but either way I'll advertise on Friday
