Hey Steemit!

Now that the year (and decade) is coming to an end soon, it's that time where we reflect on what we've accomplished (or what we've eaten in this case) and plan ahead for the next year. This contest seems really appropriate since we'll be sharing about the best restaurants of the year, and I'm so glad to share mine.

I've had many tasty meals this past year, but the most memorable one for me will definitely be my birthday dinner. Not only because it was my birthday, but the food itself was super good!

We ate at this restaurant called Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck (yes that is the actual name), and reserved the peking duck a week in advance.

The restaurant itself was really nice and comfortable. The interior looked so warm and cozy, especially the "secret" booth area. I think you have to request to reserve those specific seats but we didn't know about those seats beforehand so we just got a regular table. It was still alright though.

Once seated, we took some time to look through the menu. They have quite a substantial menu, especially their seafood and crab section.

Since we don't really eat seafood (and it's too expensive), we just ordered some vegetables, noodles and tofu, to eat alongside the peking duck.

Fortunately, we didn't have to wait long to get served. Our food arrived pretty quickly.
We started off with the peking duck, of course.

If you've never had peking duck before, it is a dish from Beijing (Peking) that has been prepared since the imperial era. The meat is characterized by its thin, crisp skin, with authentic versions of the dish serving mostly the skin and little meat.

So in all peking duck restaurants, a chef will come to the table with the whole duck and slice it right in front of the patrons.

The duck is served in slices, with the crispy skin separated, along with spring onions, cucumber slices, and spring pancakes in bamboo baskets.

So to eat peking duck, you'll lay the pancake on your plate, and roll it up with the duck meat, skin, cucumber and onion inside it. There are also different sauces you can add to the fillings, like sweet bean sauce or hoisin sauce.

I didn't take a picture but it's supposed to look like this (before you roll it up):

There was quite a lot of duck for just 4 people, so I got quite full after eating a couple of rolls. But soon, our other dishes arrived.

For vegetables, we ordered sautéed broccoli with black mushrooms (which were smooth and juicy):

We also ordered deep fried beancurd stuffed with shimp paste. This was also very delicious; the skin was crisp and golden-brown, and the shrimp paste gave the tofu a little kick so it was a little saltier and slightly spicy. Absolutely yummy! 😋

If you order peking duck, the rest of the duck meat will go into a rice/noodle dish. We decided on noodles; specifically, my favourite noodle dish - stewed E-fu noodles with fresh mushroom and shrimp roe. This one was also really good!

Every dish was just amazingly scrumptious! I can definitely see how Imperial Treasure has become synonymous with authentic fine Chinese cuisine. Since the establishment of their first restaurant in 2004, Imperial Treasure Restaurant Group has won the hearts of gourmands and casual diners alike. And it's definitely won mine. We'd previously eaten at another peking duck place but I'd say Imperial Treasure has trumped TungLok in terms of tastiness.

Now there are 17 Imperial Tresures outlets in Singapore, but only 2 of them serve their Super Peking Duck; Paragon and Asia Square.

My birthday was on a Wednesday, and the restaurant was still pretty packed that evening. Even at the Asia Square outlet we went to. Most of the other patrons were in business wear, so I'm guessing they were work dinners. But if you are considering visiting, I'd suggest reserving a table in advance, no matter which outlet you go to.

It was a delightfully delectable meal; one that I'll remember for a long time. And I'd say this is definitely a place worth visiting again.
