Hey Steemit!

Wow I can't believe this is my 40th food post (do I really eat that much 😅)! Anyway we're back to our usual weekly choice so that means my good 'ol local Singaporean food!

If you've ever visited Singapore before, you know that like many other countries in the SEA region, we're a food paradise! So whenever we go out to eat we're always spoilt for choice. One of our recent favourite haunts is this F&B chain called Encik Tan!

1.jpg

Tan is the most common surname in Singapore, and Encik is sir in Malay; so the name literally means Sir Tan, or Mr. Tan, I guess.

Encik Tan is a popular F&B brand in Singapore that has a chain of 20 Halal-certified outlets.
The concept behind Encik Tan came from the idea of letting our fellow Muslims savour popular local food prepared with Halal ingredients, while retaining the nostalgic flavour and taste of the dishes at reasonable prices.

I'm not a Muslim, but now that I think about it, most Chinese hawker stalls are probably not Halal-certified, so they can't buy a lot of dishes in hawker centres, like fishball noodles and laksa. So I'm glad Encik Tan offers them.

Encik Tan has been around for a pretty long time but I never tried it because I always assumed their food would be more expensive than hawker centre food, since their outlets are typically in malls. But I recently found that it only costs a little bit more than typical hawker food, and is pretty reasonable for mall food.

Also they serve delicious chicken cutlet curry rice, which you can't really find in hawker centres anyway!

We've only tried the chicken cutlet curry set because it's so good! The chicken cutlet is always crispy, and the curry sauce is really tasty too. The set also comes with a fried egg and some cabbage.

Some outlets are more generous with the curry compared to others, but it's pretty good value for money. I believe this is their cheapest meal, costing only SGD$4.30, while their noodle sets cost around $5-6; pretty expensive compared to hawker centres.

The parent company of Encik Tan, called Fei Siong Group, actually owns another chain called Let's Eat, that serves roughly the same food (i.e. hawker food) but with a bit more variety. They serve Malaysian hawker fare as well, like Penang laksa and oyster omelette. However I don't think Let's Eat is Halal-certified and I've also tried their chicken cutlet curry rice and found Encik Tan to be better.

Everytime we can't decide what to eat, Encik Tan is a pretty good choice; the quality is consistent, and we're never disappointed. It's quite a cheap meal especially if you're in the town area of Singapore.

If you're in the area definitely give it a try!

Wow! Never heard of the name before. I should really try to eat at that place once in a while. Upvoted!

Haha really? It's common in quite a few malls in SG.
