TacoCat's TrEats #46: Boat Noodles are whatSaap 🍜
Growing up, I ate rice pretty much everyday for dinner. So every time we went out, I would choose something other than rice to eat. And if I wasn't in the mood for Western food, that would typically be some kind of noodles, which brings us to this contest today!
If you're familiar with Singapore, you'll know we're quite proud of our multicultural society, and we have food from all over the world. Recently, we found this Thai restaurant that's pretty cool, with a really catchy name - Saap Saap Thai!
Saap Saap Thai features many dishes that we Singaporeans are familiar with, ranging from authentic street side Fried Chicken to Stir Fried Rice dishes with a twist, Thai Noodles and a multitude of desserts and original drinks.
By using fresh produce, genuine Thai imported sauces, herbs, and spices, Saap Saap Thai brings across the true essence of Thai Cuisine - Sweet, Sour & Spicy, and most importantly delicious thai!
Sean recommended we try their Signature Australian Beef Boat Noodle so that's exactly what we ordered! Along with an Iced Lime Juice.
I've never tried boat noodles before, and it was a different kind of noodle than I'm used to; it was similar to rice vermicelli but thicker. I could taste a lot of spices in the soup, which made it very flavourful and the beef was tender. It was really quite yummy!
The spices in the soup made it spicy and slightly sour, and it can be a little overwhelming. The lime juice was kinda necessary to neutralise the spice a bit. But it's still really good. It was definitely one of my favourite parts of the dish.
The outlet we went to was in one of the newly refurbished malls in Singapore, called Funan DigitaLife Mall. All the stalls were new, clean and had a modern aesthetic. This particular Saap Saap Thai had self-ordering kiosks, which really suits their self-service style (since you also collect the dishes you ordered at the counter).
The restaurant itself has an open-concept, so everyone walking pass can see you eating, but it made the place very spacious and comfortable for a casual meal with friends/family. I wouldnt recommend it for intimate events though.
We've actually eaten at Saap Saap Thai before, at their Tampines Hub outlet. However, that time we had their Thai Crispy Chicken, which was really delicious but also quite spicy.
If you're into spices and like Thai food or wanna give it a try, I recommend giving Saap Saap Thai a shot.
