Bozz Eats: Mi Tradicion Mexican Restaurant

I have been sitting on this review for quite some time now. Part of it is because I was waiting for the perfect category to slip it in. The other part is because I just had other stuff that I needed to write about.

It was a long hot day of watching my nieces play softball down in Columbus, OH and we were all ready for some good food and cold beverages.

Thankfully, Mi Tradicion satisfied and exceeded both of those needs.

I wouldn't really call it a strip mall, but Mi Tradicion is housed in a large building that contines one or two other resataurants. Probably two thirds of the entire structure is dedicated to Mi Tradicion though.

They also have a nice outdoor seating area that we obviously had no interest in given being in the sun all day already.

The indoor area is nice with a bar covering the short wall and quite a few tables spread throughout.

As with most of my Tasteem.io posts, I am going to give you a cover shot of the menu and if you want to dig into it a little deeper I encourage you to check out their web page.

Apparently, I didn't get any pictures of it, but there were eight of us total, six adults and two "teens". We opted for a pitcher of margaritas and they were absolutely fantastic. They totally hit the spot after a long day of spectating.

I know I have said this before, but in my opinion, most American Mexican restaurants have pretty much the same menu.

@mrsbozz and I can go into pretty much all of them but a small handful and know there are going to be the same items on the menu they might just have different names.

That was definitely the case here, but where the description of the food might have been similar the taste was most definitely not. Maybe it was just the long day, maybe it was because we were getting "hangry", but the food here was fantastic.

All of the flavors worked together perfectly and the balance was on point. Some places can occasionally get a little heavy handed with the salt and that can be off putting sometimes.

image004.jpg

I got the Pollo Ranchero and it was absolutely fantastic. I have had this dish at many different places and as I mentioned before, they did a perfect job here. I was basically licking my plate by the time I was finished.

image005.jpg

My niece got the Quesadilla Hawaiian and she said it was fantastic. If you look at the picture you can see the bits of pineapple sticking out. All of the ingredients were very fresh and bursting with flavor.

image006.jpg

This is going to be another honest moment for me. I have no clue what this dish is and I am not sure who ordered it. I am going to guess my sister in law, but it just escapes my mind right now. It could have also been my mother in law.

I know that my father in law probably got fajitas that I don't have a picture of and my other niece got the same thing as @mrsbozz.

image007.jpg

Which happened to be these Grilled Chimichanga. It is actually a bit of a misnomer. They say grilled, so my wife and niece got that thinking it would be a healthier option. In reality, I think it is just the stuff inside that was grilled because they still deep fried the whole thing.

They said it was good, but I don't think either of them finished their plate just because of the abundance of grease. If you like that sort of thing, you probably would have loved them. If you are trying to watch your calorie intake, probably not so much.

image008.jpg

Finally, my brother in law got the dish that I have always wanted to try. It is the Molcajete and it is basically just a huge lava bowl of all different kinds of meat. Chicken, steak, shrimp, pork, chorizo, etc. They serve it with a topping plate and tortillas like fajitas. He said it was amazing. It would have been entirely too much food for me though.

I don't have a picture of the reciept because my father in law paid. The service was great and the food came out fast. That is pretty much expected in most Mexican restaurants though. I seriously believe that 80% of American Mexican food is prep work and once that is done in the morning it really only takes a couple of minutes for them to slap the stuff on a plate and throw it under a salamander to heat it up for you.

If you are ever in the Gahanna area of Columbus, OH and you are looking for some Mexican food that will not disappoint, you should really check out Mi Tradicion!

The place looks good and the food looks great I think I would have gone for the Quesadilla Hawaiian it looks so good ;)

Yes, it did look good. I had a dish similar to that at another restaurant and the flavors didn't quite balance out right. This one seemed to be much better composed.

WellI do love pineapple so thats why I ould have gone for it, haven't had Mexican food for years now that I think about it

Dang, I don't think I could go a month without having Mexican food :)

Well I was never that big into it till I meet my wife then we had it probably once a month but there is very little Mexican food she can eat now so we dont go to them anymore

I can respect that. You have to do what is best for your body.

I would still happily go for Mexican but I just cant do that to my wife when she couldnt have any of her favorites and have to order something very plain

Oh! Yes! I love Mexican food and the Quesadilla Hawaiian looked yummy! Well, it all did really and what your brother in law got? Oh, my! I might have tried that if I was splitting with someone.

I frequently go for a split so I don't have to waste food, but, taking it home isn't a bad thing either! That plate you showed had rice and beans with Ensalada on it. I am sure it was a garnish plate unless I am looking at the wrong thing. The garnish plates are frequently served separately.

A great review and yes! I do love my Mexican food, even if it doesn't taste like that in Mexico.

Another great review -by you!

I thought it was a garish plate too, but then it looked like there was some kind of burrito or enchilada hidden down the center, so I figured I should just admit ignorance. Usually when my wife and I go out for Mexican we bring half of our burritos home to have as a snack later.

It sure look new to me, never really have a real Mexican food before.

Mmmmm... good Mexican food is really the best! I've only had it once at a restaurant here, but it was a real eye (mouth?) opener! Anyway, glad it was a good one... bad Mexican food is also pretty memorable...
