Dualities - A Tarot Contemplation

in #tarot6 years ago (edited)

I read and resteemed this fascinating post yesterday where a dream representing dualities was described. I felt inspired to pull out all of the cards in the Tarot deck that have to with dualities and contemplate.

"Everything is dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled." -- The Kybalion.

The Tarot is a description of the Tree of Life. Here are some Tarot contemplation questions: (I will not give away answers, although may drop a few hints in the comment section):

The majority of the Major Arcana that has duality as a theme correspond to paths on the tree of life that connect to the Tiphereth: High Priestess, The Lovers, Justice, Temperance, and Justice. Why would that be? What is it about the nature of the Sun (that corresponds to Tiphareth) that is unifying and divisive in nature?

Which card as presented in the Deviant Moon deck here do you connect with the most? Is it a different in another deck?

How would you design a better Chariot card to better embody the principle of reconciling opposing forces?

The designer of the Deviant Moon deck (as well as the Rider-Waite) portrayed the 2's in the suits to be 'equal' in relation to each other in all o the suits except pentacles, where an hierarchy is implied. Why is this? What does that suggest about the nature of dualities on the different levels of reality?

Whoa this is informative and inspiring to me! I have never studied Tarot, but am learning little bits from friends like you and Reinhard here on steemit. I did not know there were so many cards that depicted dualities before reading this post.

From my very novice perspective I have no knowledge of why the pentacles card would imply hierarchy whereas the other cards portray more equality. So I can only attempt to answer your question intuitively. For me the pentacles image reflects movement and dance. everything constantly changes. There is truly never any stillness in this ever expanding universe buzzing with energy. So, her dancing reflects this in that sometimes one way (one hand/pentagram) will seem better or higher, and then the dance will change and the opposite way will appear the greater way. But really they are equal and not separate.

Thank you for resteeming my post, crediting my post with inspiring this one 🙌🏽🙏🏽, and for pointing my attention to it.

Tarot is a life long adventure and meditation. Its one of those things that once you get into Tarot, and have tasted the vast reservoir of self-knowledge and potential Attainment... I do not know many people who go back.

If you are still contemplating dualities and maybe obsessing over that phenomena (I often do when it comes to realizations)... I look forward to seeing a photo of you staging your own 2 of Pentacles card. I look forward to seeing what you decide to wear. ;)
