My entry for "How To Become A Talented SteemHunter"

in #talentedhunter5 years ago (edited)

With less than one hour to go this is my late entry for @steemhunt's contest How To Become A Talented SteemHunter.

What is Steemhunt?

Steemhunt is a community for geeks, alpha nerds, and product enthusiasts who love to dig out new products and talk about them with others. We call them “Product Hunters.”

Hunters are rewarded for finding and sharing cool products on steemhunt.com with steem or hunt tokens if there products meet the posting guidelines and are approved by a steemhunt moderator. The amount of rewards are based on a hunter's user score.

Steemhunt user score is a measurable index that demonstrates how a hunter is contributing to the value of Steemhunt platform.

User Score = (1) HUNT Power Score X (2) Contribution Score

So far in my time on steemhunt I've hunted 91 products which generated $832.24 SBD rewards. Not too bad :)

Who is a talented steem hunter?

A talented hunter is someone who recognizes the most popular categories of products the community enjoys and is able to find them on a regular basis and present them in an attractive way.

Where are the places to dig for cool products?

Like @calprut said giving away your secrets might not be the smartest thing to do personally however I can give you a pro tip:

  • use key words on search engines and youtube: solar, wind powered products etc.(alternative energy); AR, VR products etc.

Basically search for a popular category of products. Also add search words like - Top 10(100) products,...

What would you like to see in a Steemhunt post?

I like to see impressive visuals (gifs, pics) accompany a description of the product. The description should outline what stands out about this product from others or their earlier versions.

An example of an impressive visual...a human flying with a jetpack...

a watercraft that submerges and jumps out of the water like a shark...

What are the requirements to post cool products?

Requirements? I don't know about requirements but people are impressed with technology especially one that pushes the limits of what they are familiar with.

A good example is levitation. A levitating lamp, glass sounds and looks cool, impressive. An amphibian vehicle that can both drive on a road and fly like an airplane is another example of super coolness. Add a gif of the levitating lamp or flying car that will wow people and they will be hooked - they'll be upvoting your hunt in no time :)

How does one get a hunt approved?

A hunt gets approved if you follow the posting guidelines.

A few tips I can share regarding those guidelines is to make sure that the product you're posting hasn't been posted before. You can check that by searching the name of the product in the top right corner...

red.jpg

The url of the official site is already checked by steemhunt automatically. However it's possible even though the url hasn't been used before the product was hunted under a different url which is often the case with kickstarter projects. The product was for instance hunted under the kickstarter url but you have found the product on their official home page after the successful kickstarter campaign. Your product will get delisted.

Also make sure you get the name of your product right. The description is limited to 60 characters. Makes sure the community knows what the product is about. I recommend you mention its main feature like "electric-assisted, solar powered" etc.

How do steem hunters interact with each other?

Steemhunters interact with each other mostly on discord.

How to understand HUNT tokens?

The HUNT token is the token you get rewarded for interacting on the Steemhunt platform via hunting, upvoting, commentating. The utility of the token will soon be expanded to Reviewhunt where product reviewers will get rewarded with HUNT tokens for reviewing products. The potential is massive as there are product influencers on youtube with million followers. And finally the utility of the Hunt token will get expanded to Ideahunt where hunter or hunt token holders will be able to back crowdfunding projects and more.

The HUNT token will facilitate the HUNT ecomomy once all three platform are up and running.

And in my humble opinion the HUNT token will be trading at 1$ in the next 5 years.

How to prepare for Review hunt?

Well if you're not a native speaker you should brush up on your english and take a look at how other product influencers on youtube review the products.

Concluding thoughts

I would like to thank @tabris and @project7 for making this possible by creating Steemhunt. I have already gained a lot SP by participating on the Steemhunt platform not to mention the big amount of HUNT tokens I aquired. As I've said above I see a very bright future for the HUNT token as the HUNT economy comes to full frutition with Reviewhunt and Ideahunt.

It's going to be HUUUGE. It's going to send to waves throughout the blockchain community and outside of it to what is possible to do on a blockchain.

Thank you for your submission.

What you wrote I can confirm. I've been with Steemhunt since summer last year and it's not easy to get a feeling at the beginning which products are suitable. Even today I still sometimes find myself in the wrong position. That also changes frequently, suddenly wind power is no longer in demand and bicycles (like your post yesterday) are back. But I can also recommend Steemhunt to everyone to have a closer look and if you only make comments because the product search doesn't work.

I have never had any problems with my English translated by DeepL. So you shouldn't be deterred by the English text. That applies to the products as well as to the comments. I think as far as the language is concerned, there is a lot forgiven on steemhunt, because many non-English speaking countries cavort there.

...and now I just let DeepL translate it and @direwolf gets a beer.

I think that's because people get bored with seeing the same category of products be on top two or three days in a row.

If some VR product finishes in first place today, the chances of another VR product finishing in first place the next day is very unlikely.

The problem is, if someone has found a great company with several good but similar products, others start to introduce them and snatch them away. I don't think it's good, but it's done that way and has happened to me before.
