The Ritual - El Ritual

A woman dreams of walking a dark corridor, lit only by dim lights up to her ankles. She feels scared and starts to back down, suddenly, she hears a perverse laugh, succeeded by a hand that rests on her shoulder, this makes her scream in panic and wake up.

Una mujer sueña que recorre un pasillo oscuro, iluminado únicamente por tenues luces a la altura de sus tobillos. Siente miedo y empieza a retroceder, escucha una risa perversa, sucedida por una mano que se apoya sobre su hombro, esto la hace gritar presa del pánico y despierta.

A woman dreams again with the same corridor in the dark, with the same illumination and the same feeling that someone is behind her, but this time she does not retreat, this time she moves forward, clenching her teeth and breathing heavily. She starts to hear murmurs, slight sounds that as she moves on to become unintelligible, uncontainable words, penetrating her mind and forcing her to scream.

Una mujer vuelve a soñar con el mismo pasillo en penumbras, con la misma iluminación y la misma sensación de que alguien está detrás de ella, pero esta vez no retrocede, esta vez avanza apretando los dientes y respirando agitadamente. Empieza a escuchar murmullos, leves sonidos que al ir avanzando se transforman en palabras inentendibles, incontenibles penetran en su mente y la fuerzan a gritar.

A woman awakens abruptly and can't speak, she just repeats those words, she is in a state of trance projecting in her mind the image of the lake, with her eyes closed she starts walking towards it, nothing and no one can stop her, she repeats constantly, like a mantra, that phrase from her dream.

Una mujer despierta bruscamente y no puede hablar, tan sólo repetir aquellas palabras, se encuentra en un estado de trance proyectando en su mente la imagen del lago, con sus ojos cerrados empieza a caminar hacia allí, nada ni nadie puede detenerla, repite incesantemente como un mantra aquella frase que soñó.

A woman raises her arms and warmth gushes from her hands, an intensity that increases becoming sparks, the invocation has begun. The clouds in a strange formation advance towards her until they embrace her completely, only thus she will be able to tame the millenary power. Breathes deeply and rises until she no longer touches the floor.

Una mujer alza sus brazos y de las manos brota calor, un ardor que aumenta transformándose en chispazos, la invocación ha comenzado. Las nubes en una extraña formación avanzan hacia ella hasta abarcarla completamente, sólo así será capaz de domar el poder milenario. Respira profundo y se eleva hasta dejar de tocar el piso.

A woman moves forward but she no longer does it alone, each step she takes now is illuminated by the fire of the sacred dragon.

Una mujer avanza pero ya no lo hace sola, cada paso que da ahora es iluminado por el fuego del dragón sagrado.

Open your eyes and look at the sky, you never know, perhaps you'll see how intense flames shape the figure of a winged being in the clouds.

Abre tus ojos y mira al cielo, nunca sabes, quizás veas como intensas llamas van moldeando en las nubes la figura de un ser alado.

Process of the illustration - Proceso de la ilustración

The lakes are something I always felt attracted to, and when I was starting to write a short story about magic I knew I had to include one for the illustration.

Los lagos siempre tienen algo que me atraen y al empezar a escribir una historia sobre magia sabía que tenía que incluir uno en la ilustración.

When I was choosing the colors for the illustration, I primarily had on my mind the clouds because they are fundamental for the tale. I wanted to achieve an effect where people could see familiar shapes but not as defined as the protagonist.

Al decidir los colores para la ilustración tuve en cuenta principalmente las nubes ya que son fundamentales en el relato. Quería lograr un efecto en el que la gente pudiera ver formas que le resultasen conocidas pero no tan definidas como la protagonista.
