My Name Is Brian and This Is Why I Joined Steemit + Self-Verification

in #introduceyourself8 years ago (edited)

Hello everyone! My name is Brian Lewis. I blog and write fiction in my spare time. I have a twitter and youtube account where I like to talk about politics, but it's not of the PC variety lol. I am joining Steemit because I believe in the potential of the cryptocurrency space and think it might be one of the most disruptive forms of wealth generation we've seen potentially ever in human history. In the past, your ability to make money was limited by your access to resources to be able to profit off of a new trend. While that model is still very much in existence, crypto's give regular people to ability to make more money than most jobs that are available out here. It's not without its problems however and I don't believe there is such a thing as a "perfect crypto," but I do think there's a tremendous amount of room to grow for this entire world.

Regarding Steemit itself, I'm joining because I don't like where "traditional social media" is going. Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, they all have a growing number of problems. This Russia investigation is being used as a backdoor to silence certain voices and stifle speech. When you combine this with the threat to net neutrality, you can envision a future where traditional social media might lose its appeal. It seems hard to imagine because Facebook/Youtube/Twitter have so much power and influence right now. While MySpace never had the widespread appeal of the aforementioned platforms, it was still popular and was eventually overtaken by better systems like Facebook.

Steemit is the next logical step of social media in the age of crony capitalism. Give power to the creators, the people making these sites hot. Other social media sites out here want you to put in all this effort to build followings and they continuously take more and more and more power away from you and give nothing in return. Sure, you can advertise...but what they don't tell you about social media advertising is that it can be a HUGE money sink. So again, you get nothing out of your effort and the Facebook's of the internet take all your cash without thinking twice.

Rant over lol

I just wanted everyone to know why I'm here and that I feel this is still the ground level - the entry point if you will. I plan on writing a lot of fiction and seeing how the community reacts to it.

Once again, hi all.

Hey @brianlewis,

Good post and I agree with you. Steemit puts a new spin on social media. Taking into consideration that creating good quality content is no easy task. I like the idea of content creators being paid for their work.

Anyways, welcome to Steemit. Steemit has lot’s of potential. As a newby you must have some questions. I know I did. I created a few articles as I went through my learning curve. For a fast start you can check them out at:

Hope this helps. This is it from me for now.

As a fellow Steemian
Thanks for being here.
You're awesome and I look forward to seeing your content …

Nice first post, and interesting insight. I joined Steemit for a lot of these same reasons, and have always been fascinated by the world of crypto. My page is kind of a niche thing, so I don't expect a follow in return, but I will definitely follow you!

I'll check it out. Thanks for the support

Welcome to Steem @brianlewis I have upvoted and sent you a tip

Thank you very much

GREAT post! I share your opinions on traditional social media and the potential with crypto. Welcome, and I’m looking forward to reading what you have to say. I’ve followed you. Feel free to follow back

Thank you very much for the support. I've followed back

Hi Brian Lewis! Welcome to Steemit! You definitely know your way with words :). Looking forward to your fiction and other contributions! Best of luck!

Thanks. I've been writing consistently for a couple years now

Followed you for fiction, and I agree mostly in your point of view, but some people are able to build and image of themselves on IG,FB and rest, and then use merch to make their profits, cool strategy for ones who can do that , honestly. I suggest you read the FAQ :https://steemit.com/faq.html
and curation rewards explained: https://steemit.com/steemit/@calamus056/curation-rewards-explained-in-great-detail

Thanks for the follow

No problem, I like made up stories, the haunting ones are the best!

I might dabble in the suspense/horror genres, but I'm most comfortable writing science fiction, fantasy and contemporary fiction. It's a form of escape for me. I was thinking about writing Star Wars fan fiction, but I honestly need to do more research before doing that. I don't want Disney trying to sue me or forcing Steemit to do something because I could theoretically make $$$ off of their licensed universe. I know there is Fair Use, but this is a huge grey area.

Sci-fi good enough for me, I love marvel and dc, watched all seasons of SuperNatural. And for star wars I understand it's really topic for discussion, maybe make Star Worms ? and just replace couple of letters in character names with oter letters so it sounds goofy, then technically is original content.
