Hoarding? Collecting? NO, Rather an Investment!
My eyes light up everytime I see an Oil Lamp at a garage sale.
My husband's eyes roll!
"Don't you have enough of them" He asks.
"Shhh, don't let them know I'm interested" I retort, as I slowly make my way to picking one up and making a deal.
I admit, I can't pass up a good deal on an oil lamp.
I'm not a collecter (although, in its defintion I am collecting). And I'm not a hoarder ( although, in its definition I am hoarding). I am simply making sure that I have enough Oil Lamps for our family and our neighbors - for when the lights go out.
They can be traded or given as gifts.
Of course they are of no use without fuel and wick. Wicks are dirt cheap on ebay.
Fuel, yes fuel must be stored carefully; being flamable as it is.
There is great service in looking out for your neighbours. They remain unaware, but when the time comes, we will be prepared!
It is an investment.

Nice collection :)
Glad you see it that way! Thanks @nrajesh
If the “stuff” hits the fan… well… at least we know who has a corner market on lanterns! I thought those are really dangerous though if they get knocked over… I like the short gray one the most out of your “investments”
Yes. . . The short grey one is the most valuable one. Good Eye!
It was from the Canadian National Railway. Very sturdy with beautiful light. That is one I would keep for family.
Omg these bring so many Childhood Memories. When I was a kid and lived in Cuba in the country where some of my family and grandparents lived there was no electricity and this was the only source of light at night. I can really appreciate those little treasures you have there, for us it made all the difference. I still remember to this day the smell of Kerosene that they use to use for fuel.
Hola! I didn't know you used to live in Cuba. I was there in January on Holidays. Got to visit a Cuban dentist due to a tooth mishap. LOL
I am happy with my Cuban tooth!
Yep lived there until I was 9 then in Panama for a Year lol. They have great dentists there. My Dad goes back every year and he gets all his dental work there for a fraction of the price he pays here.
Love your collection!
Thank you!

Thank you for the post! I kept the oil lamps from my grandfather, tried to make them work, but wasn't that successful. Somehow it's easier to flick a switch :-D
For sure, easier to flick a switch. LOL
Hope you hang onto those old lamps, might come in handy some day. 😉
I love your collection; a very useful collection! :)
Thanks! Good to have, hopefully we don't need them. 😉
