Surfing The Dock from STAB and Volcolm

in #surfing7 years ago (edited)

I first started surfing when I was 5 years old. My dad took me out on a huge tandem board and scared the crap out of me. I surfed off and on after that but didn't really get into it until high school. I'm now land-locked in Nashville, TN, but a few years back I did enjoy some amazing surfing in Costa Rica. You can see pictures here: Surfing Costa Rica.

This morning I saw this video, and it blew my mind. I've seen all kinds of interesting surfing approaches from jet ski and helicopter tow-ins to strapped boards with hydrofoils to amazing windsurfing and kitesurfing acrobatics. I've never seen anything like this.

I was able to play the video. Who ever thought of that was genius! It did look like it took some abuse when the larger waves came though. It must be built pretty durable. I bet there is also a learning curve to be able to run with your board and hop onto the wave.
Your Costa Rica pictures are awesome. Was @corinnestokes on the Camera because there are some great shots of you.
As you know us Canadians are more into skating and snowboarding. Surfing looks like you swing more with your front foot where in snowboarding I find you back foot is key. They both seem to require a lot of entire body movement. I don't have any snowboarding photos of myself but I do have some skating ones.

I remember this wipe out clearly... totally got rocked by a goon.

Haha! Nice. Nah, it was a professional photographer set up on the beach with a huge lens. The whole trip was filled with amazing surf. This was two days, back to back, and the second day the photographer found Corinne and asked if I was her husband and if I had been surfing there the day before. They had an arrangement with the local surf shop, so we just had to go back there later and pay for a CD with the pictures. I was really stoked to be able to see what I looked like out there. :)

I have had that feeling before.
My entire life I have only ever had one hockey game video taped.
It was pretty cool to watch it and see what you look like from the perspective of others.

Even looking back at our UPENN days, I think that there is only one photo of me running. Since I ran the website it was usually me taking the photos... I may have a few of you to bring out of the wood works at some point...

Oh, that would be awesome! Yeah, if you find some old photos of me on the track, please do share. :)

thats pretty wild

This is my kind of surfing. Can't start the day without my steem dosis.

Hahah... nice. With those pathetic waves, I'd be doing the same. :)

Good post, thanks for sharing

@lukestokes - Those are indeed some amazing stunts. I had not even seen that floating ramp. I have tried surfing only once but ended up spending more time drinking sea water than on top of the board. I admire all you surfers (from the safety of the beach!!). I am sure some day, I will try it again but I need to get strong sea legs for that!! LOL Hope you do get to surf more. Thanks for sharing this. Upvoted.

At my end, I continued my observations of nuggets of wisdom from wildlife and wrote a Snoozing parrot economists blog and a blog 'How to Chill - 🐵
Monkey Style' with my wildlife photos and musings with a twist
. I request you to take a look at it when you have time. Your comments, as always, would be an encouragement and incentive for me to make better blogs. Thanks

Great post and great photos. Thanks for sharing. Followed.

Hey Luke, cool video. That looked like it was a great setup for those guys and was setting them up perfectly on some of those waves!

I also looked at the post of you surfing! You have skills man! Being stuck in Tennessee has to be brutal for you.

Yeah, it's been rough, but I've found other fun activities to pass the time like edutainment, playing board games with my kids, and Steemit! :)

Maybe you should have a surfing trip / vacation once a year with the Steemit Money!

This floating ramp is a great idea!!

hey mate that is great fun ive seen the video

Coooool thanx for this post !
