SUPPORT HONESTY CHALLENGE

How do we achieve a voluntary society,

one where personal freedom and personal responsibility are at the forefront of every decision? How does a voluntary society handle problems?

What constitutes abuse? How do we come to consensus on acceptable definitions of abuse, and then agree on the proper action to be taken while still respecting individual freedom?

One need only look at the real world results of delegating our responsibilities in problem management to a central authority called government to see that it doesn’t work. Power is a corrupting force. Personal responsibility is what is required here.

What happens when those in the highest positions in our society are the worst offenders?

Lead By Example

This works both ways.

If those at the top of a society are abusive and apathetic, if they disrespect and disregard the equal value of others and always act in service of themselves, then this will be seen by many as tolerable behavior. It will be seen as the path to success. If they are doing it, so can I.

If those at the top are honest and compassionate, if they are inclusive, tolerant and engaged, if they act in service of others, then this will be seen as the path to success in our society.

Steem is a microcosm of society as a whole.

The difference, however, is that people can choose not to participate in our little version of reality here on steem. This seems to be the choice most are making.

Now I realize most people don’t even know about steem. We can all agree though, that many, many of the people who do know about steem, and once participated in our little society, choose not to anymore. Why?

Ask yourself, what could you have done differently? What can you do differently now?
Are you willing to accept any personal responsibility for the success or failure of our society?

I just passed the 2 year mark here on steem. I’ve only ever had one account. To me this is about being honest. Everything I do and say, every vote I cast reflects on me, on my values and reputation. I’m ok with that. I treat others how I want to be treated and I live with the consequences.

Until recently my vote, whether up or down wasn’t worth anything. Therefore using it as a curating tool to downvote and remove rewards from accounts who I felt were abusing our community was futile. Especially since most of the really truly harmful abuse (the abuse that turns so many away from steem) was done by powerful accounts who used their power to discourage content creators that they simply didn’t agree with, while self voting and vote selling.

These are the biggest problems here. These are the issues that must be addressed if we want to gain and retain users. This is the abuse that leads to all of the other abuse.

Now, as one of the top ten stakeholders on the #weedcash network I find myself in a position where what I do actually has an impact. Not on the main problems of steem mentioned above, but on the #weedcash tag and posts. I take this position very seriously. The success of #weedcash is also my success. The success of steem is my success. I will continue to invest my time and effort into creating and curating quality content on the #weedcash network.

I realize that the dollar value of steem is way way down and investors are in survival mode trying to get as much money as they can out of their seriously depleted investments. Spreading the daily rewards out more judiciously sounds like even less for them at a time when they feel they can’t tolerate any more losses. This is short sighted however. What brought people to steem in the first place, and what will bring them back is hearing that people are making money blogging about topics they are interested in. Steem has had a three year head start but competition is coming up fast. We need to get the word out now that steem is an incentivized, censorship free social media network full of real people who care. We do care, don’t we?

For steem to thrive we all must do our part to make sure quality content creators that have a following aren’t deprived of financial incentive by powerful accounts that don’t agree with a position on a topic. If we agree that being a platform for controversial content, content that is censored by the big guys, is something we want here then we need take action to retain these creators. Many have huge followings and could bring so many users here if they were making money.

There are so many great artists, writers, thinkers, and freedom loving people here on steem. We all need to commit to making sure quality content creators are recognized and appreciated for their work. The numbers are small enough on the network now that every piece of quality content could receive a couple dollars minimum. If we could achieve this goal word would spread and content creators would once again begin to join our community.

My pledge is this:

I will only ever have one account @choosefreedom

I will never vote for myself

I will never buy votes

I will continue to only manually curate posts, never using bots of any kind

I will actually read everything I cast a vote on

#supporthonesty

I was called to this challenge by my friend here on the blockchain @jonyoudyer.

The challenge was this:

  1. Develop your own post about supporting honesty or fighting abuse on the Steem blockchain. Your post should be as detailed as you want it to be.

  2. Make your own challenge promise statement and banner

  3. Tag the post with #supporthonesty

  4. Nominate 7 people to attempt the challenge

I pass the baton to @doitvoluntarily @ceattlestretch @hippie-witha-gun @skramatters @fishyculture @barge

Nice job! Thank you so much for your true effort into this. I totally respect all your pledges. Steemauto has become such a great tool on steem, but at the same time it has got people lazy. Which is why people who use it, still need to go interact. But i do totally respect people who decide to not use it, heck i cant even use it cause im to busy manual up voting, lol. But anyways, im glad your back from your hiatus, and hope to see you steeming many years to come!

you always include some great quotes!

Thanks for the nomination. So I have to write about honesty? I just got done putting in a lot of thought into a blog for the #gratitudechallenge I was nominated for a few days ago. I expressed a lot of honesty in that blog already HA HA. It might take me a day or so but I'll write something.

I’ll have to check that #gratitudechallenge post out. No rush on an post, if you choose to do one it’s cool.

I will definitely add my own #supporthonesty mark bro.
Can I make a post without being nominated? And also can I post a video instead or writing a blog?
Cheers!

Of course! #supporthonesty any way you feel like friend. Please do make a video post about it. I think that sounds great 👍

Perfect!
Steem to the moon!
Weedcash to Mars!

Congratulations! Your post has been selected as a daily Steemit truffle! It is listed on rank 10 of all contributions awarded today. You can find the TOP DAILY TRUFFLE PICKS HERE.

I upvoted your contribution because to my mind your post is at least 4 SBD worth and should receive 156 votes. It's now up to the lovely Steemit community to make this come true.

Thank you. What a great project.

I like what you have done here and appreciate the challenge I’ll see what I can come up with... My Monday mojo was stuck at get through the day levels.. I am thinking about doing some invisible art for creative coin though as I was warned my last satirical piece was “not creative” I also dared anyone to flag me in the tags though 😂 soooo, I’m letting my snarky sensibilities simmer. To test the resolve of the creativity cops 👮‍♀️ is quite tempting?!?

The great heroes of steemit! Instead of facing the big problems that are more complex and difficult to solve it seems combating “tag abuse” and then feeling good about “doing something” to fix what is wrong with steemit is much less risky. There’s that direct correlation with the wider world again. 🤔 I just got some crap from @nojahm4u on this post so I’m unstaking and liquidating the token. I look forward to seeing what you write if you choose to.

Oh good one.
.old saying... One smelt it dealt it.. And easier to bitch about the issue than to fix.

Partiko was mostly down the last 24 hours sigh.. I just now got some coffee in me so I'll do some brainstorming.. Oddly enough I take the serious posts quite seriously..

I noticed Partiko was down. I try not to be too serious about anything in this crazy life, but honesty and abuse, well, I guess I feel pretty strongly about those issues. I’m not surprised that you do too. That’s why I chose to nominate you. I really am looking forward to seeing what insightful and profound thoughts you share with us. Thank you for accepting the challenge. 🙏

Much respect! Integrity is something I'm passionate about and I'm chipping away at my response or pledge as we speak.. The challenge is challenging lol, and I appreciate being nominated. You did such a great job with yours, I was just reviewing your post and the comments and again have gotten another dose of how steem is vastly different things to different people. I'll try to focus my ideas into the post though.. Thanks again, seriously not too serious but not lacking purpose takes some conviction..

Thank you. I knew I would ruffle some feathers with this post. I don’t enjoy conflict but some things need to be said. Steem really does mean different things to different people. No rush on your pledge, and don’t feel pressured by me to be any more serious in your post than comes naturally. Great comedians like Bill Hicks have shown us how jokes about very serious issues sometimes communicate truth in a more palatable way.

Nice nomination! And congrats...

Well I buy votes. And stack and grown this from nothing. Stacking that sp and Weedcash and throwing votes.

If people see buying votes and growing as a bad thing? Well you are really missing the point. And playing the game by your rules. Which you may do...

But kinda gets to be a dividing point. Not that I care I'm gonna do me and I'm just fine.

But yeah I'd rather know and not throw someone a vote if they have something against me... Or are upset about vote buying... Think this "organic" thing got a bit bent...

And I've got lots of friends that are set to auto-vote... And get them as well. I can see why people are a little mad. But hey why the heat?

It all started with people buying votes and the people that didn't believe in it or want to spent the extra time...

But auto-vote system of the tribes? That's not manually curated... And again delegations for votes? Well how many groups would fold...

Slippery slope for censorship and division.

I said my peace and I'll pass on the challenge in the future and avoid promoting this...

But yeah you all got it wrong.

You have a right to your opinion. I don’t judge you friend. You do what you have to and what you feel is right. It’s totally cool. I’m just making my pledge. It’s for me not you. I don’t make my living here on steem, and I’m sure I never will. I’m just looking at the future of the platform. I mean you no disrespect. ✌️💚😎

This is a good idea most especially for users like myself who just got on here, if we're been encouraged we will definitely get other users to get on the platform and make the community larger. Thanks for this post and I am glad I came across such an honest individual like you

Thank you 🙏. Welcome to the steem community. I’m no expert when it comes to the workings here, and I definitely can’t give you the best strategies for making money here, but if you have any questions I’d be happy to tell you what I know or point you in the right direction to get the information you’re looking for. ✌️
