Study in Tanzania?
If you have a plan to spend a year or a few months in African for studying in one of the universities, the University of Dar es salaam should be your number one choice! The University of dar es salaam is in the commercial city of Dar es salaam. The campus is located on the hills and hence the name 'Mlimani' (on the mountain). It is cool, green and mostly covered by trees.
Its history may not mean anything to you but from there you will be able to see untamed potentials for business, agriculture and tourism. If you just want to have a new experience of how other people live, the University of Dar es salaam opens the door for that. Students come from all over the country and you can just ask a friend to take you to their family and stay with them for a week or so and meet people. You don't need to pay for anything else but your transport fare!
When I was doing my undergraduate studies I met Hannes from Hamburg- Germany. He was doing Energy Engineering and he wanted data for his thesis. I took him to my village in Morogoro, about 270km from Dar es salaam and helped him a lot with the translations and introducing him to new people and culture. Hannes is now in Asia developing his project ‘Solshare’.
The country has abundant land, water bodies and tourism resources. Although land has become a bit delicate undertake due to some politicians in Africa taking advantage of people’s ignorance and laziness by scapegoating investors as the reason for their misery in Tanzania the leadership is strict on land use regulations. No investor has been dispossessed land for other reason than not using it. The government also encourages people to find partners for investment and it does everything possible to make investment procedures easy and take shorter time.
The people in Tanzania are good and friendly. Of course bad people have never been non-existent in any country, but most of the people in the country are good. I have seen several times that foreigners in our university feel nervous to talk to others but once you open your mouth to say ‘hi’ you will get a response and you can continue talking for a while. Some may feel shy because of poor English but they love to chat and socialize with foreigners too.
Welcome to Tanzania, welcome to the University of dar es salaam.
