5 Reasons Indian Weddings Are The Best In The World
I'm not really into weddings. I never played "wedding" when I was a kid or dreamed about what my wedding would be like one day.
I was too busy playing in mud, ruining my clothes, and farting in my brother's face (I'm a nicer sister now).
Even now, I would never spend money on a wedding because I'd rather just travel. $4,000 on a wedding dress, are you insane?! That's 4 months in Asia!!!
But one kind of wedding that I did dream about was Indian weddings. Going to an Indian wedding was WAY high up on my bucket list....and after finally getting to go to one a few years ago, I realized they definitely deserve their spot at the top of the list.
5 Reasons Why Indian Weddings Are The Best In The World:
Food For Days- Indian weddings last anywhere from 3-7 days. I went to one that was about 5 days, in Lonovala. And there was literally a glorious buffet of food for every single meal. And if you like Indian restaurants...just wait until you go to India and try the real thing. You'll never want regular food again.
Dancing For Days- I kind of LOVE Bollywood music. Maybe that's embarrassing to admit. But Indians are great dancers and the energy is just off the charts at an Indian wedding. Plus, somehow you find yourself bonding with people over your awkward, inadequate dance moves.
Indian Friends- They're some of the top friendliest people in the world. Seriously. In just one day of being there, I had more friends than I had holes in my underwear.
Sarees- I could stare at these bright-colored clothes forever!!!
Henna- I LOVE henna tattoos. I mean, just look at that artwork on the lady's hand. I love that I snapped this pic just at the right moment. The only sad part about henna is it goes away after a week or so.
I could list more reasons, like the all-night partying every night, and eating pizza and rice at 4 am... but the rest of the magic, you'll just have to experience for yourself.

Omg great point! The wedding I went to was considered "small" and there were about 1,000 people there. Can you imagine?!? Plus they had to pull off the whole "groom riding in on a horse"thing
Hehe! I know right? It's normal for North Indians to spend a bomb on weddings and invite everyone they know, even if it's an aquaintance.

And the wedding customs and rituals in each part of India is different from one another. But its always very colourful and fun. Glad you like it😊

Wedding customs vary along the length and breadth of a state even . I am from South India~Kerala . In our state we have traditional Hindu weddings , Christian wedding and Islam wedding . Even the Hindu wedding customs slightly vary from place to place inside the state.
In North Indian wedding they have a day alloted for applying henna on bride which is known as Mehandi function as in the picture you posted above. Then they have functions like Haldi , Sangeeth. As far as I know North Indian weddings are more elaborate and the function last for many days.
The costumes of bride and groom is another feast to the eyes. While we wear a saree and jasmine is an integral part of the bridal hairstyle, in the North the bride wears 'Lehanga' and cover their head. Most customs prefers bright variations of red for the wedding outfit.
Even I wish to witness a Bengali wedding , Sikh wedding , Marathi wedding , Punjabi wedding,Kashmiri wedding , Tamil Iyengar wedding someday .....😊

So cool!!! I was supposed to go to Kerala, but my flight got canceled because of snow in Turkey :( so I only got to visit Mumbai and Lonavala. Kerala is still on my list!!
Oooo I went to Sangeeth, it was SO much fun! Dancing non-stop!

I got some Mehandi on my hands, too, but obviously it was less than the bride's was. Hers covered all of her arms and I think her feet, too. I liked mine a lot. I wanted it to stay on for at least 6 months... haha how can I get henna for 6 months? I wish that was possible.
Haha..You can deepen the colours by adding sugar and lemon juice but no ways to make it last that longer 😉

I've always wanted to see one in action too--I love the jewelry and the henna. It seems to me that in the US weddings are less about family and more about frivolity lately, whereas I have always gotten the vibe that Indian weddings seemed to maintain both.
Yeah that's a good point! I totally agree with you!!! US weddings also seem to be about who can outdo everyone else on social media. It's getting out of hand. I guess you already said that with frivolity
@nomadicsoul I was in an uber the other day and the driver was Indian he was telling me he had a small wedding too, there was only 1,000 people too 😂 my sister in law is Algerian and I think it has some similar traditions. Hennah is a big thing and it goes for few days, dresses for each day and quite a lot of people!

I'm not so much a fan of Indian cuisine but I might be eating a not so appetizing Indian dish. I should go to an authentic one. ^^
Indian Culture is pretty interesting and colorful! I've watch Bollywood movies as well and dancing and singing are always present. ^^

I tried chicken and that is based on my mom's cooking, neighboor's cooking and friend's cooking. Lol it doesn't really count. :)

WHAT ABOUT THE GOLD?? Isn’t there a bunch of gold in Indian weddings? Say yes say yes :)
Just people with hearts of gold! haha just kidding. Yeah, actually! Maybe some of it is fake gold though, I'm not sure. I forgot to pay attention to tell the difference if it's fake or real.
Hearts of gold are just as important :)
Mostly the South Indians are obsessed with gold. And no fakes 😉 Although dowry is almost eliminated now a days, parents still give gold as a gift according to their financial status to their daughters.
