I was stuck in traffic as usual when I looked at the scene passing by and noticed within this narrow space between a low shophouse and some clump of trees, there was this gentleman seated quietly, working on a piece of wood sculpture. Balinese are such creative talented craftsmen, and the pieces of artwork they create are mind-numbing! Just to cater to local needs as well as tourists' demand. Of course, the tourist dollar is king here, but national pride in their artwork is also outstanding, as we see these pieces proudly displayed in all public and private areas ~ from hotels, shops, restaurants to offices and homes! Quietly produced by craftsmen such as the one I was looking at, in humble surroundings, just like this.

Nice capture, I have a great appreciation of craftsmen, people who create with their hands. Got my vote!
Thank you very much, @apprenticeoflife
Me too... :)
A superb black and white capture of a skilled craftsman at work. This reiterates what you were telling me earlier @achkoo Hours and hours of back breaking work done behind the scenes, most of it without the recognition they deserve. I don't think we appreciate just what goes into the many items we buy on a regular basis.
Thank you very much, Trudee, for understanding what I tried to convey...
And many times, people wonder/ask if they can "...get it for cheaper..." I think we begin to value it better if we tried making something with our own hands... not that easy, is it... :) I've kept this shot - not a very clear or good one, I admit - for awhile, not knowing if it will be 'accepted' but it is more the witnessing of someone working on his craft from within limitations and yet coming up with beautiful works of art - that is what this picture stands for.
