Salty Adventures

I used all nine story cubes in this tale. The capsule became a time capsule, and the starburst symbol in the upper left represents the sun. To participate in this contest, check this out.

Salty Adventures

Amy the Amiable Amoeba lived in the ocean. Her best friend was Orrin the Obstreperous Octopus. Together they sang the mermaids’ songs day after day with the sun streaming pleasantly down on the waves.

Nearby on the shore lived a wandering minstrel in his little tent. He listened to the octopus and the amoeba singing the mermaids’ songs and began to strum along on his lute. One day some pirates landed on the beach, demanding to know where the treasure was hidden. The dial on the geiger counter mounted on the bow of their ship had been beeping furiously as they approached the shore, leading them to assume they would find a heap of precious coins.

Of course, the minstrel had been so busy strumming mermaid tunes, he hadn’t even noticed the odd time capsule that had washed up on the beach. He and the pirates promptly cracked it open, and found the worlds largest collection of bottle caps. Disappointed, they each opened and guzzled a bottle of beer, adding their beer bottle caps to the world’s largest collection, which suddenly became even larger. After setting it adrift in the sea once more, the pirates sat down to learn the mermaids’ songs, which they rendered in four part harmony, much to the consternation of the mermaids.

What could the mermaids do about this dreadful travesty? They approached the shore, sang more loudly and beautifully than ever, and lured all of the pirates into the ocean where they died happily in the arms of the mermaids.

The minstrel went back to playing on his lute, and Amy and Orrin resumed playing in the waves.
