Behind The Orange Mirror - #1

in #story6 years ago (edited)

I've been wanting to start some sort of story on here.

Something that I can continue indefinitely, and do what I want with. I was lacking inspiration for it, so I decided to use some random generators. They helped a lot!

So, now that I've got something to work with, I'm going to finally start a series. It will probably be weird, erratic, and maybe even dark, because I'm going to write it in my own style that I enjoy. I was happy with the generator results, because I could use them to play on an idea that I've had for awhile now.

So, if you would like, join me for this adventurous ride.

Behind The Orange Mirror

[1]

"I've got my dangerous robe - now I'm killing myself." Sonya said it out loud, as if giving herself confidence with her words. She stood on the small cement wall, which was the only thing separating the large empty bridge from the over 100 foot drop into the river below. The wind blew at her long black robe, and if there were passerby, they might have thought she was just a large shadow against the bright moonlight. Lucky for her, the bridge was empty tonight, and only silence surrounded her.

Her heart raced as she stared down at the water. This wasn't the first time she had jumped. She already knew the thrill. Actually, she had jumped multiple times. Why wasn't she dead yet? Well, technically she was. She couldn't explain in years, but some time ago she had jumped from a different, taller bridge, and they had found her body a week later, stuck to some driftwood on the shore.

After that, when she opened her eyes, she was in a strange darkness. She tried to move her hands in front of her, but it was as if they didn't even exist. She wasn't even a ghost. It was almost as if she had no form at all. A strange voice asked her if she would like a job, and told her she would get another chance at life... or lives. She wasn't to speak of it to anyone, or she would go back to simply not existing. Wanting some more excitement than her last life had provided, she accepted.

The next time she opened her eyes, she was in an alley, and a strange, orange antique mirror was laying next to her. She looked at her reflection, and the person looking back was her, and not her at the same time. It was a much more beautiful version of her. What she might have looked like if she had taken care of herself more, and avoided the drugs and alcohol. Silver colored eyes looked back at her, surrounded by pale skin, and long red wine colored hair. She found herself giggling like a little girl. This wasn't so bad. But, what exactly was she supposed to do?

She pocketed the mirror, and wandered the city for a bit. She felt so aware of everything around her. It didn't take her long to realize that this place was not the same world she was born into. It was similar, but there were a lot of things that were off. People had strange features, strange languages, and the vehicles were not normal cars. No one seemed to pay much attention to her, since there seemed to be some normal human looking people around. She wondered what things would have been like if she had been dropped into a world with scaly creatures.

She felt a warmth from her pocket, and pulled out the strange colored mirror. The reflection showed something other than what is was supposed to be showing. It showed her another location. It looked like an old theater. The image quickly switched back to a normal reflection, and she tried to keep the image of the theater in her mind. She knew it must be important somehow.

After walking around the bustling city, and asking a few questions, she found herself standing in front of the exact theater. It was on the edge of the city, and much more quiet here. She took a deep breath, and tried top open the giant double doors. They screeched open, and she stepped into the musty darkness. It was an old theater, and had both a stage and a screen. She quickly noticed a dark figure hunched over on the stage.

"H-hello?" her voice sounded louder than it actually was, and echoed off the empty walls. The figure jumped a bit, and turned to look at her. It was a young girl, with a dirty face. "Are you okay?" Sonya asked, trying to stay confident. There was something about this situation that made her nervous, but she wasn't exactly sure why.

The little girl stood up, and brushed her dress off. "You can see me?" she asked in a frail voice. Sonya nodded in reply, and the little girl stepped off the stage, and started walking towards her. Sonya didn't know why, but her heart was racing. She took a step back, and when the little girl noticed her fear, the girl suddenly smiled a creepy smile and began running towards Sonya. When she got close, the girl leaped at her, and Sonya saw a shadowy form of some sort of beast. She didn't know what to do. She threw her hands up in defense, and a bright orange light shot out in front of her, hitting the girls body, and tossing her all the way back to the stage.

"What? What was that?" Sonya stood in confusion, looking at her hands. The glow was gone, but she still felt a tingling sensation. She didn't imagine that powers would be included with this new job, but apparently they were. She took another deep breath and calmed herself down. The body of the little girl was disintegrating and turning into some sort of weird dust. She walked over and climbed onto the stage, still trying to understand what exactly was going on. Was she some sort of demon hunter now? She had watched plenty of movies, but she never expected to be the main character.

There was something shiny in the pile of dust. She reached down slowly, and picked it up. Now, what was a little girl doing with this...?

To Be Continued

I hope you like my idea for the story so far. I'm having a fun time writing it. The intro is probably longer than the next parts will be, but I guess it really depends on how much I feel like writing at the time. Stay tuned to find out what the strange object is!
