The Colourful Work Of Art - Flash Fction

in #story7 years ago

The community spent days argueing. Each member thought they should be the one who's handprint should be used to make the work of art. One, who left a green print, said his colour was the nicest, while another member, who left a yellow print said his was the colour of gold. The man who left a red print said his print was fierce and would stand out, while the woman with the blue print said her tranquil colour would bring a smile to those who looked at it.

There was only a few hours left before the contest ended. They only had the rest of the day to finish the work. In a bold move, someone with a pink print pressed her hand into the canvas.

"There, now we have to use pink," she said.

The man with the red print was not happy. He pushed his print on the canvas as well.

"What did you do?"

The man with the red print smiled, until he saw the blue handprint that joined the work. This was followed by a yellow print. The rest of the community swarmed the canvas. Everyone pushed his or her hand onto the canvas. When they were finished they took a step back.

Everyone was silent. To their surprise the work turned out well. Even better than if they stuck to just one colour. The day was almost over. The wrapped the work up and headed over to where the contest was being held.

Their work stood in a row against all the others. Each work had used one colour. That was the norm. But this year everyone talked about the multi-coloured piece. The decision was unanimous. It took for first place. The community was thrilled. They all accepted the prize together.

And next year everyone entered a work with at least two colours.

And the guy that was running the contest was appreciated by everyone for bringing that value to the community!

(OK...so that part was also fiction.)

We can dream :p. Though I would disagree, I know I appreciate the contests you do.
