Lost Time - Flash Fiction (Repost)

in #story7 years ago

It was 8 o'clock. Aaron was too stressed to be tired. He was the man you went to to get things done. He made sure of it. Aaron didn't want to fade in with the rest. He wanted to be that guy. And if it meant late hours and little sleep, then so be it.

He looked around the office. There was work everywhere that needed to be done. Papers stacked on papers. But if he put in the hours,  put in the time, he could make his fortune then retire at a good age. Early 50s. Maybe 40s if he worked hard enough. Sweat gathered on his face. He blinked twice. So much work. He had to push through. He had to get this done.

He picked up a folder. But before he could start, there was a tingling in his arm. His chest started to hurt. He grabbed his phone as he crashed to the ground. Luckily he dialed 911 while he could.

The paramedics carried him to the elevator. He lay in the gurney as the numbers went down, 9,8,7,6,5. 1. There was a ding. They rushed to the ambulance and swung the doors open. In seconds they were on the road rushing to the nearest hospital.

There was no suprise what it was. A major heart-attack caused by stressed. Aaron was lucky to be alive. He waited to be discharged and find out what his bill was. It was high. Very high. It was almost three years his salary. He would have to go back to work on Monday.
