Hospitality Notes (An Original NON fiction book - exclusive for steemit)

in #story8 years ago

Before I begin with the first chapter, I would like to do a brief introduction of what you are about to read.

I have had a 16 year career in the hospitality field so far, and I have begun to write my own book / encyclopedia about one year ago. So far a lot of notes have been done for the book and many graphs have been drawn. It will include a lot of information in many fields that hospitality evolves around, including advice, general information and management issues.

I was thinking about publishing this book and before I do so I am willing to share it exclusively here, chapter after chapter; this is in order to see the initial reaction of a well read and intellectual society, that steemit is.

I have agreed with @poeticsnake for 100% original illustrations and a cover for the book (but it will take a while, in any case I will not be publishing more than 1 chapter per 5-7 days). Meanwhile all illustrations that are used will be sourced from the internet.

Part 1
Chapter 1

Welcome notes

So you awoke one day and decided to have a go at the field of hospitality. Be it for many reasons from getting quick money, to making a full time career, the hospitality field is a whole great world.

If you are willing to follow its rules, it may (and will) reward you with many things, starting with the right skills and ending with a great connections network, you will be able to use for all your life ahead, if you do decide to follow in the footpath of a hospitality career.

This book can be read as an encyclopedia or can be skipped among the pages, to search for a quick advice.

The information I gathered in this book is mostly based on my own hospitality experience, which is at the time of writing this book contains over 16 years in the field. Ranging from loud night clubs to posh 5 star hotels, I worked on 3 different continents with all kinds of people.

I started my career as a dish washer. Today I am a GM.

So with this background set, let me begin my book by (as the title of this chapter states) some welcoming notes.

Hospitality is a cup filled with goodwill – you might have heard this sentence before. If you have, that’s great. This sentence summarizes the first part of the book in 7 words.

You must have heard of the Holy Grail. A cup out of which a holy liquid was drunk and great powers would open up to those who drunk the liquid. Well hospitality is not much different, if you are willing to understand that all of this business is based on the good will inside you (the cup), you are here to succeed on an amazing career path.

To become that cup, one of the most initial things is to be proud of the job you are doing. Understand the importance of your work.

Whether you are a dishwasher or a manager, the things you can contribute to the guests experience, are much more than you might first imagine.

A bad hotel houseman can cause more damage to the system, than a bad salesman! A salesman is an important part of the chain, who sells the experience to the guest. A houseman helps that experience to be filled with goodwill from the cup we mentioned earlier.

Being proud of what you do today, is key essential to sharing goodwill. When we are happy we can easily achieve better results. Don’t let others fool you that your job is not important. Try to imagine yourself as a small piece of a huge puzzle. Without any piece it would be incomplete.

All this derives from our inner self. Our positive thinking, not only about our job, but our lives and it shows to the guest what we are willing to project onto them.

Always remember that by being the best at what you do is another essential to your success. Be it serving food or cooking it. Be it selling a room or cleaning it.

You have to achieve the maximum out of yourself (today!) if you wish to succeed.

By understanding that success is based on good will, which has to derive from you, let us break down further into much detail the things that will help you to succeed on this path.

In the following chapters we will discuss how you can handle yourself and your stuff. How to understand your guests and how to provide service to them. And most importantly how to never lose a guest.

I have one question: Why nobody leaves you a comment. I mean you have a great post and is not the only great post of you, but nobody? I can't believe that people don't have at least 1 minute from their time to write their opinions about this post. Or maybe you are so good, and everyone thinks that is nothing to comment. No matter what's the reason, I give you a min or two because you really deserve it.I know is not much but it's all I can do.

It seems people don't have time for comments as they don't have enough time just to upvote... i even don't say about reading what is inside.
