Chapter 2

Along Came A Spider!

So time went on for Stephen, his mother and his three sister's and still none of the wiser, Stephen had to endure guy after guy coming and going from their home, while his mother lept from one to another, each week a different guy. His mother would be out on the town at least once a week so he and his sisters would have to be under the care of a babysitter and sometimes sleeping out at a family friend's home. Quite often Stephen would be the first up for school and when it was clear to him that his mother was still asleep he would have to ensure that he got his sisters ready and fed them their breakfast before taking them to school.

One day under the care of their latest babysitter's, Stephen, Cheryl, and Charlene where off to be handed back to their mother who was sat in a beer garden in the town center. It was a two-mile treck along the side of the river and whilst Stephen and Cheryl were dragging their feet, Charlene was being dragged by her walking reins crying as she was too tired to walk. The babysitter was clearly annoyed and picked her up only to hang her over the edge the railings with only a 15ft drop between her and the river. After screaming to let her go, the babysitter just laughed and replied:
" As if I would drop her". then pulled back over.
As they arrived at the beer garden, there sat Stephen's mother with a muscular, blonde haired man, sat right beside her.

"here are my children," said Stephen's mother

In which the man then said " hi kids my name is spider"

Well, Spider soon became a regular visitor over the next few weeks and really put the effort into getting to know Stephen and his sister's but for some reason, he really took a shine to Stephen and Stephen did with him too. See at school Stephen was having a hard time and was constantly getting into fights which he would lose and being bullied for his scruffy appearance. Growing up without a father figure or a brother really did Stephen no favors when it came to standing his ground. Spider noticed this and decided that he could be the guy to play that role in Stephen's life.
So out came the boxing gloves and the biggest, heaviest punch bag that looked like something from the early Rocky movies. Stephen trained hard alongside this big strong man, who he kept looking too for inspiration.

Stephen's love for music sprung from this very moment in his life. He and Spider would stay up late watching The Beatles, U2, The jam, The police and often visit the record mart to buy a new LP. But it was that Christmas that Stephen will remember for the rest of his life as when he awoke that very morning he was presented with the biggest box he had ever seen and once the wrapping came off, there stood a shiny new drum kit. He also got a toy guitar with amplifier and microphone. After almost a year Stephen's mother married spider and why wouldn't she. He was a great husband and a fantastic father figure to her children. With Stephen as page boy and his sister's as bridesmaids, they where more smile's on face's than a typical day in Disneyland.

So It was happily ever after...

If only, I mean when did a story ever finish at chapter 2, because as time went on so did the affection between Stephen's all new parent's. Spider was drinking a lot and had developed an addiction to prescription drugs. While Stephens mother had gone back to her 2-3 night's out a week and it was history about to repeat itself all over again as when Stephen was sat on top of the staircase, pulling up his sock's while trying to catch some much-needed attention from his hungover dad as he was crossing the landing to go for, what must have been the longest piss Stephen had ever heard. Spider kicked Stephen so hard that he fell from the top of the stair's to the bottom and landed right at his mother's feet.

Down came the rain and washed the spider out!
This was to be the nail in the coffin for their marriage and much to everyone's disappointment Spider was out on his ear.
Once again his mother faced court but only this time it was to obtain an order for Spider to stop harassing her and this got serious too. Stephen mother would often be stood staring out of the window late at night, armed with an air rifle and a knife could be seen stuffed near the front door.

But to Stephen, he had lost his dad, the only guy worthy of that title and was to never see him from that day on
This only got Stephen more determined to find his real dad because now he knew what he was missing in his life. So he set out once more to ask his Mother

"Mum!" "who is my father" cried Stephen
and to his surprise, she replied with a name.....

His Name is Eric
