It's A Shore! No, It's A Promenade!

Have you read the title? Can you tell the difference? 5% up to the first one who could throw the answer to that question.?

My husband and I got lost in this part of the Alps that's more laid back compared to the other cities that we've been to.

Flowering plants on boats and wooden sculpture adorn this promenade, couples can't help but hold hands while strolling under the scorching sun. There was a wooden carving of a giant walrus, taller than I am, an old man holding a bird, a couple hugging each other.

This is a water closet. It's well kept and doesn't ask you to pay €0.50!

In front of it, a few couples were playing on some of those wooden sculptures that offer one to test their balancing ability slack lining, stepping on two long, thick, flat ropes tied on two wooden boat mountain climbers. When one of them falls off, the whole group would giggle loudly. I realized, I wasn't the only one possessed by the playful kid inside each of us that time. It must be the promenade, it does that to you.

Can you see the shed like box with what look like wood in the middle of the picture? That's actually a box of portable chairs.

Thoughtful, huh?

Plenty of tourists were lazing on them under the shade of any tree they chose, some were having a mini picnic or just sitting , relaxing and enjoying the view. Some were even taking a nap while hugging their backpacks. I wanted to do that, too, but it was just too hot for me that day to stay still. I did however, like the many others around us, slowed down that day. We just spent killing time there, just chilling, holding hands while walking.

You look at one side of that promenade and that emerald green lake would leave you gushing and when you turn to the other side that vast display of green and blue mountain view would be showing off.

A few gulls were on sight for a change, normally, it's crows we see in most places we've been to. Not a sight of them there, I wonder why.

The left end overlooking the lake seem to be a camping site cause we saw plenty of caravans. My husband asked whether I'd like to try staying on one of those for a night if we ever get back there. Why not, I've never done camping anywhere in the EU yet, after all am officially a cheese head now, too. I should.

In Grindelwald, I found plenty of Koreans and here, a lot of Japanese. The place must be famous for the later. The theater's called a Kinotheater , sounds like Japs, too huh? While we were strolling hand in hand like the other couples were, we passed by mini Japanese themed gardens.

The naughty me couldn't help but say; "Konichiwa!" in a very bubbly tone to two very cheerful elderly Japanese women I bumped along with while walking back to our car. One of them said; " hi" back to me and a few more steps away, she must have realized what she's did, she looked at her friend first and smiled. I, stood there, trying to savor the last moment while my husband airs out the heat in the seats of our car.

They stopped, and the one that said hi, looked back at me so I immediately threw her a flying kiss which she threw me back and asked me whether I am Japanese, too. Like a guilty naughty lass, I motioned that I am not and bid them to have fun.

She covered her mouth, giggled then held her knees with both hands and looked at her friend who also started laughing. They both waved their arms to bid me goodbye with an ear to ear smile which I couldn't help but reciprocate and off they went on walking ... still happily chatting about that probably odd encounter for them.

My husband asked what I just did and laughed after I explained what had just happened. I just couldn't help it, I guess.

There's some dust of happiness in the air that day, the moment you step into that promenade, you get infected. Not a soul in there was wearing a frown, no one was spared, everyone seemed very very playful. I find it ... magical. Am glad we found it by accident.

You? Have you ever been accidentally lost in a place and felt like a certain energy in that place seems to boost your serotonin or endorphins? Is that really possible for a place to do that to you? Spill?

This content's 100% mine . I took some of the pics with my D Eye and some with my smartphones.

That is wonderful water side qenglishtchrivy, I love chess figures, it is always amazing to observehow some people play, it takes hours they can think and wonder for the enxt step and I just love to watch the game. Such folding chair is very common in Europs especially in touristic places also I love in Autumn and winter when you see outside in cafe, they have a heating on and also nice warm blankets, so you cover yourself and enjoy your hot drink outside on fresh air. There a re a lot nice things for public in touristic placesand I find it really good as tourist you want to have unforgettable memories and only then you have them. Thank you fr your beautiful pictures, as always, really enjoyed them :)

I lost to my husband on that game haha

I don't really agree that such folding chair is common in the EU
it's the first time I've seen this one
it's for free

most of the chairs in the EU are more of benches
or the ones that are in front of restos or hotel
which won't allow you to sit there unless you're drinking or buying
surely, you won't get this in Venice at all

this one's for free that's what surprising about it
and I find it thoughtful actually it's not really common in the EU

we have beaches in Holland and you may sit on some of the chairs in the smoking area but surely a waiter would approach you and ask your order
if it's not very busy, you may stay
but if it is, they'd courteously ask you to vacate the seat

and if you may stay, it's usually wet or windy - no fun
if it's sunny, most of the seats are taken

nothing like these for free anymore
even in other EU countries I've visited that has shores and promenades
only benches like those in Spain or the wooden ones in the parks which is mostly full of bird poops

I remeber venice, you will spend a fortune just for a cuppa and of course the Marcus place is famous of its waiters :) You are right in biger touristic places nothing is for free, but living in a smaller cities may be it is a privilege because people are happy to offer you a sit on beach and even to take for a ride.I am glad that there are some places where you really enjoy the nature, people and beauty of town, it leaves nice memories and people will definetely come back :)

This is such a beautiful town. Mountains in the background with a scenic and clean lake. Just wow.

well, i'd say a promenade is a walkway along the shore of the sea, or it could be the banks of a river, or a lake. A promenade has usually lights along the way, it is paved, etc. The shore is more like natural, no roads laid, normally no lights, etc. Haven't googled it, so I could be wrong.

And, .... the answer to your last question: for me, there have been two such 'special' places: New York harbour(Statue of Liberty) and Paris.

thanks, not many read that part
only you and ace108 so far :D

Paris of course!

I knew instantly that was my beloved Switzerland. I just didn't know exactly where you were as there are so many sites like this! :)

I heard so many people saying that it's a pity that Switzerland doesn't have a sea. Then after all it would have everything. But well, look at these lakes.. do the Swiss need a sea? I don't think so :)

There are so many Asian tourists all day long! They seem to love coming to Switzerland!

Thank you for sharing! I haven't been to Brienz yet but I checked and it's close to Bern so I will go there for a day trip!

haha

calm down ^ ^
they also have this in Germany and Austria but yes it's in there :)
I hope you make it there
it's really lovely
some folks told us, it's even like so during sunny winter
except colder ... am not sure that's true for I've never been there that time

I'm wondering a bit, is it possible to travel to/from Switzerland by boat?

This summer I've seen two boats with Swiss flag.

I'm wondering a bit, is it possible to travel to/from Switzerland by boat?

This summer I've seen two boats with Swiss flag.

Sure :) You can go by boat on the river Rhine to Germany/the Netherlands..

Where did you see them?

Two hotel-style boats in Amsterdam, and one sailing boat previous week in the Oslo fjord.

Oh, ok.. so yes, I can imagine they came from Switzerland then :)

At first I thought the hotel-style boats were permanently moored up in Amsterdam and serving a purpose of being floating hotels, but we saw them leaving the next day. They were clearly optimised for rivers and channels, not the sea.

Yes, there are actually many boats in Switzerland as the Swiss love doing boat trips on their rivers and MANY lakes :)

Just like this place i posted recently.

A public place for a walk😎

exactly :)
I really love it that you're always reading my post
it's very rare these days you know

Awesome photo and lovely post, my dear friend, I love your photography

beautiful day

Can't believe the chess on the floor near the lake. That's just impossible to imagine in a place like Argentina.

Amazing place and lovely story. Looks like a fairy tale town.

I get you, it won't last a day if this was also in some public area where I came from
but it's also common to have big bro lurking around the EU and the countries around it
to keep these safe

it's heaven on earth I must say :)

Scenic no doubt
