Do identical twins have the same genetic make-up?

It is an established fact that a sperm must fuse with an egg whixh has been released from the female ovary during ovulation before we say fertilisation has occurred.

During fertilisation, the sperm penetrate the outer layer called the syntiotrophoblast which covers the egg. On penetration and fusion, two things can happen. It is either the egg divides I to two or remains Intact.

The one that divides into two gives rise to what is known as identical twins.

The question now is this, do they have the same genetic make since they are from the same egg and also fertilised by only one sperm.
