STEMng Digest: Week 39

Welcome to another episode of stemng weekly digest. This is the 39th episode of the series, a weekly post where we bring to you some of the best articles written by STEMng authors in the past week.

As a background information, STEMng is a sub-community of steemSTEM, a community-driven project which seeks to promote well-written and informative Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics posts by Nigerians on Steemit. The project involves submitting quality STEM-related posts to the steemSTEM management for upvoting and resteeming where applicable.

As we usually do, we have sifted through the STEMng tag and even though there were several good posts to choose from, below are the posts that stood out since after the HF20 which constitute our week #39.

1: Debunking Some Shits About Evolution

There is no doubt that evolution is an important subject in Biology and has been studied by several scientists all over the world. In this particular post from @samminator, some commonly held but largely unproven views about human evolution were debunked. Worth reading for all science enthusiasts.

2: Critical review of acupuncture as a therapeutic procedure; can we call it a placebo?

While acupuncture remains a popular practice in some countries, it is largely considered a pseudoscience in some quarters. @cyprianj took a critical look at the various methods and procedures involved in the practice and how it is probable that the practice can be considered a placebo effect.

3: HOW EXACTLY DO WE MEASURE ELECTRICITY WITHOUT TOUCHING OR SEEING IT

This article from @lawkay talks about the components of electricity and how this quantity can be measured without being seen. The author went further to discuss the various devices available for the measurement and how they are configured.

4: The Objects of Science: A focus on Kyrzada Rodriguez

---

My favourite for the week. The author blended literary skills into science to craft an entertaining article about stomach cancer, using the story a famous fashion blogger to drive home her points.

5 : Artificial Intelligence; What are they 'really'

---

Hardly can technology be discussed in the modern sense without mentioning artificial intelligence. This article from @kenadis discussed the basic meaning and some information about AI.

6: A look at,xenotransplantation: can pigs save human lives?

---

The demand for human organ replacement has been on the rise and supply do not seem to be at par. In the article, @hillaryisidore dived at the possibility of replacing human organs with that of pig, a method known as xenotransplantation. Worthy of a read.
