week in review.jpg

Today we take a break from guild vote nominations to bring you another edition of the Steemvoter Week In Review newsletter. This is an opportunity to highlight winning SV Guild picks from the previous week. Since post payouts happen at the end of a 7-day window, we feel it's fair to give our winners one more chance at getting some recognition before their payout periods close. These are hand-picked community recommendations that you won't want to miss!

In addition, we'll share any updates that the owners of Steemvoter care to pass along plus a Tip of the Week for getting the most out of the Steemvoter service. Without further ado, we present... drum roll please...

Anxiety: Want to get rid of it, should you? by @looftee

This post offers a very different perspective on anxiety, something that affects many people and is usually considered a problem that needs to be fixed. But @looftee argues that anxiety is actually a weapon, and can be beneficial when put to use as such. Our favorite line from his post is "anxiety is not a problem to handle, it is an opportunity to make yourself better". Another apt saying that comes to mind is "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade". If you're looking for some great outside-the-box motivational reading, then this is the article for you!

Unbelievable Truth: There is a 300-page novel without a single letter ‘E’ by @royalmacro

Today's writer @royalmacro is a veteran Steemian, having joined in July 2016, this latest post refers to and discusses a book where the letter "e" is not used in the vocabulary, it piques a lot of interest. We do find out that since it is a French book and the French don't commonly use the letter "e" in writing. Well done on this interesting and insightful post, keep Steemin @royalmacro!!

10 Steemians I want to shout out to this week by @businesswri

It's not easy to get noticed on Steemit. Sometimes good authors get lost in the vast ocean of posts, which can be discouraging especially for new content creators struggling to hit their stride. Luckily, there are people like @businesswri who sometimes go out of their way to acknowledge & help out their fellow Steemians. In this post, @businesswri highlights 10 awesome Steemians who have had a positive impact on his own Steemit journey. We love seeing this kind of selfless behavior, and so do the many others who selected this post for the guild vote. Keep up the good work @businesswri!

hammer.jpg Steemvoter Service Update

With the big server migration finished as mentioned in last weekend's update, we are moving into a housekeeping period where we focus on fixing some long outstanding bugs and getting ready for our next big feature push. You've got to walk before you can run, and that saying is just as true in software development as it is in many other areas of life.

Over the past week we fixed an annoying bug that was causing voting rules to become disabled after being edited. You can now edit your rules worry free, and not have to double check that they are still active afterward. Apologies to any users who were confused by this behavior.

Another big area of focus is scaling up our service to handle future growth smoothly. We've seen a huge increase in new user sign-ups since the Steem price began to skyrocket last month. This has been putting strain on our voting scripts, so sometimes votes might not be done at the exact time that you specify in your voting rules. During particularly busy periods, votes can stack up and end up getting delayed. To resolve this, we will be bringing additional dedicated hardware online which will allow voting to be performed in parallel (multiple votes cast at once). This should help a lot with preventing the kind of congestion we've been seeing lately, and the first few pieces of this plan will be put into motion in the next few days.

lightbulb.jpg Tip of the Week - Another way to check VP

Keeping an eye on your account's overall voting power is quite important, especially given the upcoming hard fork which is going to change how fast a vote at 100% weight will drain your voting power. Ideally you want it to hover around 80% to maximize your curation rewards while still using as many votes as possible per day.

Normally you can use the convenient "GET VP" button on the main Steemvoter web page to check your account's voting power:

However, we recently discovered a bug which prevents this button (and the "GET SP" button) from working for accounts that have a dash character ('-') in the name. Credit for uncovering this goes to our Steemvoter users @matt-a and @sc-steemit, without whom we probably wouldn't have noticed the problem.

We don't know how long it will take to fix, but in the meantime if you are affected here's what you can do:

  1. Stop using the "GET SP" and "GET VP" buttons.
  2. Let us know about it in Steemit Chat - we can manually update the SP number so it displays correctly and calculates the right number of maximum voting rules for your account.
  3. Use the excellent steemd.com web site to check your voting power.

Steemd.com shows all sorts of interesting stats about your Steemit account, as well as a history of all account activity. Simply follow this link (replacing @cryptomancer with your own account name):

https://steemd.com/@cryptomancer

You'll find your voting power grouped together with other stats on the left side of the web page:

And that's it for this edition of the Steemvoter Week In Review. We wish all of you a great week ahead!

Guys, I would like to take this chance to thanks all your effort for the project. May I ask a question is the in the steemvoter, it said the max rule is 3. But I have tried to add rules over than it, but there was no warning pump out. So, actually what will it be if I activate more than 3 rules? Will it stop functioning or what? Thanks for your help!

If you add more than your max, it will not stop you, but we periodically check to see if anyone is doing that so after a while you will get a warning. If you ignore the warning, then after a while longer you will find some of your rules get automatically deleted to bring you back under the limit. So obviously it's better to obey the limit and not have that happen to you.

And if you repeatedly do this, then eventually your account will get locked.

Thanks for your reply! Yes, stick to the rule is always much fair. Juts would like to confirm whether it is bug or some thought behind.

Hi it is a bug that we will rectify by the end of the week, however until then we will be manually enforcing the rules if the bug is exploited excessively.

Your right to vote seems high. Let's make friends with our local tyrants and evil forces
