The Reds try and remain hot against the Cubs today

The Cincinnati Reds host the Chicago Cubs today as they continue their National League Central Division series in day action in the MLB. First pitch is scheduled for 3:10pm Central Standard Time and can be seen on National Television on WLS and Fox Sports Ohio. It will take place at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Cubs are small favorites at -123 and the over/under is 9.5 runs. The weather will be warm and partly cloudy. The Reds have won the first two games of this four game series.

The Reds are feeling good after beating the Cubs 6-3 on Friday. Eugenio Suarez led the way with a two run homer in the bottom of the 5th inning to get the lead and they would never look back. The Reds offense combined for 12 hits. Luis Castillo would pitch great and earn the win.

Today the Reds will send starting pitcher, Anthony Desclafani to the mound. He is 2-1 on the year with an ERA of 4.60 and a WHIP of 1.47. He will need to get some good run support today and the Reds bats should have a good day as the Cubs are forced to use their bullpen today for the entire game to get their starting pitchers a day of rest.

Luke Farrell will be the one to get the start for the Cubs. He is a relief pitcher so it will likely be just a four inning performance from Farrell at best. He is 2-2 on the year with an ERA of 3.63 and a WHIP of 1.38. Farrell has only pitched more than two innings once this year so it will be interesting to see how long manager Joe Maddon goes with him.

Offensively, the Cubs have the best on base % in all of baseball. Kyle Schwarber hit his team leading 15th home run on Friday. But that was not enough run support to get the win and the Cubs now find themselves sitting two games back of the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central.

Today’s game should be a wild one. Las Vegas has set the over/under at 9.5 runs which is one of the highest on the board today.
