The Steem Sister Show - Episode 29 // The One About Costco

in #steemsistershow6 years ago (edited)

Welcome to the 29th episode of the Steem Sister Show!

Your hosts are @coruscate and @maryjaney. We are two sisters using the Steem blockchain to chat about our life experiences and provide a little entertainment value to the Steemit Community.

Topic of this Episode – Costco

Random topic? Maybe. Super fun show? YES.

We were laughing our heads off in this one and had a lot of fun chatting all about one of our favorite stores - Costco. Thanks to everyone who submitted fun questions for this episode!

Here are the questions covered in this episode:

*Do you buy clothes at Costco?

  • Audience question from @bmanmcfly – Are you strategic about the timing and/or location when you go to Costco?

  • Do you ever do Costco dates?

  • I’ve heard that Costco treats their employees well. Have you ever known anyone that has worked there, and do you know what their experience was?

  • Audience question from @fitrianizar – How does Costco market to people to make them buy things they don’t really need?

  • Do you wait in line for samples, and if so – what are your favorites?

  • What are your favorite staples? Give us your grocery list.

What is the Steem Sister Show All About?

We aim to bring more “non-crypto” related content to the Steem Blockchain. Although there is nothing wrong with this kind of content (@corsucate even posts on crypto related material sometimes) – we want to help create a better onboarding experience for new users. We talk a lot about attracting new users to the platform – but if the trending page is filled with crypto posts and flagging wars, they are likely to lose interest quickly.

We hope that by creating content that is more similar to what they are used to seeing on other social media sites – they will feel more excited about being here and creating content of their own!

How Does It Work?

We pick a different topic every episode, and then throw totally random questions about that topic in a hat and go back and forth. We always have a mix of our own questions and some audience questions. Our rule is that we cannot tell each other our answers before filming! So you guys are getting our raw, unfiltered reactions here.

Every episode we announce the next week’s topic so people can submit questions.

Want to win some SBD??

If we chose to answer your question in the next show… we will send you 2 SBD! Now that’s some easy money.

Next Week’s Topic : Adult Beverages

In honor of @maryjaney buying her first home and literally moving in this week, we will be discuss the pros of cons of buying vs. renting. We both have pretty different view points on this and so I can't wait to dig into it!

If you would like the possibility of winning 2 SBD - please submit your questions! Anything on the topic of Renting vs. Owning is fair game. I feel like most people have experience with this topic, and so I have no doubt you guys will come up with some awesome discussion questions.

Listener questions always end up being the best ones - so thank you in advance to everyone who submits one!

That’s a Wrap!

We hope you enjoyed this episode. Now i've got to go clean up the big makeup mess! We had a lot of fun chatting all about Costco and cannot WAIT to do our first Costco trip together and document it al for you guys sometime soon! Mary is moving this week - so it might be a couple weeks.

If you have any thoughts or questions that came up from this episode – feel free to shoot them in the comments below.

With Love,

The Steem Sisters

Naaawwwwwww Costco Lovestory! I did not see that coming at all... that was super sweet.

Ah, OMG Lea! I had completely forgotten that berries are still keto. We live in the country surrounded by farms and my partner has been buying all the berries.. and I've had none because I'm (mostly) a good keto guy. I just looked it up now, and carb to fiber ratio is so good. I can't even tell you how exciting this is!

Awww Costco Sister date.

Congrats @maryjaney! That is so incredibly exciting!

Sooooo.... this week I found out that an apartment we own and have been renting out for 7 years or so is now valued at $300K less than what we purchased it at... so brutal. It was an incredible investment for 2 years... by which time a trillion developers built a gazillion apartments (no exaggeration) and... a massive local factory shut down, completely destroying that entire property market. But, the townhouse that we lived in and sold totally broke the price record for our area at the time... so, ah, location, location, location & luck.

Anyway, my question is:

What are your absolute must haves in buying a property?

yeeees go pick berries!! Strawberries are pretty much done, but raspberries and blueberries should be gorgeous right now! I'm excited for blackberries to come in soon too. They grow like a weed around here and so you can pick as much as you want for free. I imagine it's similar down in OR?

So crazy to hear about your apartment's drop in value. Ouch... that is aweful. It's crazy how all of those factors can really have such a profound effect. Thanks for the great question on our next episode too! That will be a super fun topic to discuss!

Fun episode! I actually worked in a Costco 1 hour photo lab back in the film days. It only lasted a couple months... We had a heat wave, it was 115f out and all the parking lot cart guys quit. They stuck me on carts, after a couple days I complained that this is not what I was hired for, they said deal with it, so I did, I quit too, haha!

Question: Have you ever had a bad neighbor while renting an apartment that made you want to buy a house and not have neighbors that close?

Ooooh man 115f?? Pushing carts?? No wonder they had a hard time retaining people!

Thanks for the awesome question on our buying vs. renting episode too! I have a feeling that we will both have a lot to say on that question.

Cool! I look forward to hearing some funny stories... Have a great day!

Thanks for the mention.

It's not even the lines that get me boiled over; it's that people will tend to just stop randomly, lanes get blocked, or otherwise treat it like they are the only ones around. Where the other one, it's just a more relaxed experience.

I'm the same though; unless there's a particular reason, it's always the short trip. Throw in the headphones and just bee line it through the list.

Had a coworker who would go do a tour of Costco samples for lunch... so, there definitely are people who abuse the samples. He didn't even have a membership.

Cheers.

OMG YES... people stopping! I am actually surprised that didn't end up coming up in this episode. That's the worst... some people are just so oblivious.

Good idea to throw on headphones - I'll have to try that next time. Listening to one of my favorite podcasts or some tunes might make things better. :)

Super funny about your co-worker eating there for lunch! Not gonna lie... I used to do that when I was in college. The Costco was a block away and I would sneak in and eat samples. not a proud moment... but ya know. Or sometimes I would sneak in and go buy a hot dog for $1.99. Cheapest lunch around! haha

Congratulations to @maryjaney for the new home, my questions goes thus;

  • Have you ever felt that your life would be better if you did not drink?
  • Is beer or wine safer to drink than liquor?
    More success #SteemSisterShow

Oooh great questions @oxygen02!! You always have the best questions. :)

Thanks for watching our show. :)

You are welcome, thanks for the good work. Keep the fire burning.

Ooh Costco, gonna be one of the unforgettable experience for you I guess 😂.
Anyway, regarding the next week topic which is quite interesting to be discussed. For me myself, if I have enough money and the thing I would like to own is useful enough, I will absolutely prefer buying rather than renting.
My question is what kind of things that you used to rent and the thing to buy? What's the criteria?

Hi @fitrianizar!! I'm so glad you enjoyed this episode on Costco. We are apparently obsessed. lol

Thanks for the question for next week too!

I have barely had the ability to read the publication, I do not understand much English, so I'll stay with the desire to enjoy your show, maybe someday you want to subtitle, I think your idea, what a good initiative, and what the SBD Even better :)
