# 24 - America in Wars - Part 1
In 1982 the US Mint started issuing its Modern Commemorative series celebrating famous American people, places, events, and institutions.
Although wars are sad events, they must be remembered as part of History.
This is the first part of a small series dedicated to America in Wars.
All coins are $1, 90% silver and weight 26.73g.
The first is the 1991 "Korean War Memorial", issued to mark the 38th anniversary of the Korean War and to honor those who served. The border between North and South Korea is at the 38th degree of latitude. So they chose the 38th anniversary... The reverse shows a map of Korea with the division at the 38th parallel and the “yin and yang” in the South.
The second is the 1993 "1991-1995 World War II", issued to commemorate the 50th anniversary of USA's involvement in World War II, from 1941 to 1945. The reverse shows Dwight D. Eisenhower's quote : "I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory!".
The third is 1994 "Prisoner of War Memorial", issued for the Prisoner of War Memorial Museum to be built in Andersonville, Georgia. The reverse shows the plan of the museum.
The fourth is 1994 "Vietnam Veterans Memorial", issued to mark the 10th anniversary of the dedication of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, DC. The reverse design features three military ribbons

The little flag icon at the top of all posts and comments. If you click it, it will ask you if you're sure and give you some of the valid reasons for flagging. I would recommend you be judicious with it, as you can get flagged back, and one flag from a whale can remove months of work. You don't want to get dragged into a flag war. But for something like this, it's totally appropriate.
